I got the mono

No wonder I'm so tired!

Thanks. I had it in high school (over 15 years ago) and didn't realize you could get it again. Now I know.  My director is understanding which is good. I was feeling like an awful mom, because I didn't want to do anything with DD. Still going to be a challenge with keeping up with her, but maybe this is a good time to consider hiring a short-term housekeeping service...

Oh no! I hope it runs it's course quickly. It's miserable. You definitely can get it again-- I've had it three times but the good news is that it's usually weaker every time you get it. The first time I got it, it was life altering. I was bedridden for weeks and sick for months. The second time was just exhausting but without the very high fever and the inability to move. The third time I was just down and dragging. Apparently it's pretty rare to get it more than once but it does happen. I also had chickenpox three times so that seems to be a magic number for me for all the illnesses you're only supposed to get once.

  • @Ago, I'm sorry to hear that you have mono. :( I had it in college, and it was awful. I also didn't realize that you can get it more than once. I've been tired and run down lately, too. My OB did some labs, which aren't back yet. I wonder anything would show up wrong in my CBC if it's mono. My throat has been hurting for a few days, too. Sorry you're sick! I hate mono!

Thanks, guys.  This definitely isn't as severe as last time.  I have some days that are totally fine, some where I'm pretty tired half the day, and some where I'm wiped all day long.  I just get an occasional scratchy throat and fever.  At least I know what it is!  I hope it not being as severe might mean that I can recover quickly!

  • How ya feeling now?

I had mono two years ago? OMG it was AWFUL!!!  I was soooo so tired. Like... I can't even explain. I could barely get out of bed.  I napped all day, and I hadn't napped in 10 years. And my throat was so crappy. I never want that crap again, and I have no idea where I got it.

I think this go around is more like what @eyenigh experienced her second time around, so that is good. Each day is different. I think as I get toward the end of it, I will start to have more good days than bad? I'm functioning, but just SO. TIRED. Luckily my sore throat isn't near as bad - just a bit scratchy. That was absolutely miserable the first time around.

My doctor the first time around had zero bedside manner. I went in because I thought my allergies were horrible that summer. I was dead tired and I had a horrible sore throat, occasional fever. He prescribed new allergy medicine, but I was still having the same effects. When I went in again, he said "Well, do you want to be tired because of allergies or tired because of allergy medicine?" I felt dead but still went to work everyday because I had no idea. That was an awful summer.
