mine said wait until 6 months. and start with rice cereal.
well i threw that out the window and started 3 weeks ago and started with sweet potatoes. now she's had the sweet potatoes, bananas, pears and squash. still working on introducing more.
i felt she was ready and i think she was. she took to it right away. i didn't want to do cereal because there is no nutritional value in it.
DD's pedi said that if she's showing signs of being ready we could start it now. But he did say we should wait until she's showing signs of being ready.
My pedi said probably between 3 & 4 months. He'll tell us when. He said the biggest thing is to make sure the baby can hold their head up really well, to reduce choking hazard.
Thanks guys. ?My bean is a week shy of 4 months and he is a chunk! ?He is nearly 18 pounds and is strictly BF. ?I was just curious what the future holds. ?
We're waiting until 6 months because of a family history of food allergies. DS is at least 21 lbs, but I know he's doing fine on BFing alone. I would wait for longer, but I don't want to miss his window of interest for now. He shows interest in food, or at least watching us eat. He can sit up with less assistance, he opens his mouth when I bring a spoon or piece of food close to it. We'll either start with avocados or bananas or rice cereal. I would only do teh rice cereal for iron, but probably not every day so he doesn't get backed up. I love this website:

Mine said to wait until the 5th or 6th month, closer to the 6th month and to start with single rice cereal.
You know they are ready when they have doubled their birth weight and can sit up with some assistance.?

Most pedis say 4-6 months. The AAP recommends exclusive BF for "approximately" 6 months. You can decide what that means.
