Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie

Hi everyone!

I am just wanting to introduce myself. I am 30, DH is 29, we have been married for 2 years and we just started trying last month. I've had some very serious injuries in my past, so a little apprehensive about how pregnancy will be.

My form of trying, and others on here seem to be a bit different, so, I will lead with that. I don't temp at this point. We have sex about 5-7 days a week on average anyways (because my husband says that I am insatiable), and I have felt my ovulation since I was 13 which this month came exactly 14 days after my period (first time I had ever really paid attention to the dating of it and hadn't ovulated since I went on the pill just before we got married). I still remember complaining of a bad side ache visiting my grandmother when I was 13 and her telling me "you are laying your egg"... I was horrified and embarrassed.

I had actually thought that we had a really good chance this past month when I saw light pink when I wiped on Wednesday I was hopeful, since it was 10 days past ovulation and usually when I start, I START (I've always had very heavy and painful periods). I woke up though on Thursday morning with cramps and good old AF. Bleh.

So in the meantime this weekend, I will go surfing, ride a horse, have a tropical drink, and a second cup of coffee and eat a medium rare steak and anything else I won't be able to do pregnant. We realized that it would probably take a few months, so started trying a little earlier than we think would be optimal for having a newborn. It does seem a little cruel that the announcement that you aren't pregnant is nastiness, horrible cramps, and raging hormones...

Welcome. You should seriously educate yourself, though. Really. Do it. So much wrong.

  • Welcome!  Charting is really a great way to see how other things are affected by your cycle, for instance headaches, skin breakout, with the added benefit of knowing when you in fact did ovulate.  I for instance have cramping occasionally on the day after O, who'd have thought that? Of course there is nothing wrong with sexing and hoping! Best wishes
  • Ooh lucky you for being so insatiable! I hope all that fun leads to quick results for you. Welcome and best of luck!

  • I do research so much it makes my head spin. Hubby is a med student, so we are pretty much inundated with medical stuff in our house.  It all seems to boil down to having sex at that right time, and to me, that is every day, cause sex is way too fun and my husband is way too hot to boil down to a chart to tell me when to. I waited 28 years for goodness sake.

My OBGYN said to have fun and see what happens before stressing, which seems like pretty good advice.

When we get to the point where we feel it is necessary to take extra steps, we will do the temps etc etc etc, though I have Raynauds so my temp tends to be pretty erratic cause of episodes. My feet are currently purple in the middle of summer.

  • Yeah, I was talking more about you "laying an egg" when your side randomly hurt and what you "can't do" when you get pregnant. But I guess we can probably add that Raynauds is pretty unlikely to affect your BBT charts to that list.

  • The laying an egg story was supposed to be funny, as was the list of everything everyone says you can't do, though I doubt I will want to surf cause laying on a board with a big belly and sore boobs doesn't sound like much fun, and horseback riding is iffy cause there are risks associated with it, which is how I broke 4 vertebrae. Most doctors don't suggest you do either too far into pregnancy, cause of risks involved. Even surfing, carnage happens, and someone when someone collides into you, or your board flips up and hits you,  it's a bad day.

Let's start on a good foot, shall we?
  • No mommy wars!
  • It was another joke. I know what mommy wars are.

All I am saying is, let's give everyone a break, realize everyone is under a lot stress and just be happy and supportive. I wish you all the best in your journey to babies. I really was just looking for a place to vent and laugh without letting everyone we know our baby plans, cause it is tough to keep all this to yourself. Like when my husband applied to med school and talked on forums like this of others going through the same stuff, that only they could all understand.

I really do wish the best to you and I will now be leaving.
  • Welcome! Good luck! I first started thinking I might be PG while snowboarding & pOAS when I got home & got my BFP with my 20 month old. I was supposed to go snowboarding the following week & was so torn. I didn't think I should go but DH really wanted me to. Everything I read on the internetz said it would be ok but I didn't feel comfortable. I think it's a very personal decision.
