3rd Trimester

low fluid

I am 33wks and was diagnosed with GD about a month ago. I just started my weekly BPP's and NST's yesterday. They told me my son is currently measuring at 4lb 15oz. They also told me that my fluid level was a little low. They said is was at 5.9. They did an NST and said everything with the babe seemed ok/, but they want me to come back tomorrow for another ultrasound with the High Risk Doctor.

I delivered my first son via C-section at 38 weeks due to low fluid. I wouldnt be as worried if I were a little farther along, of course on the flip side I would be more worried if I weren't as far along.

I asked if there was anything I should or shouldn't do to help my levels, but he said there isn't anything I could do to change it.

Anyone else ever have a similar situation?

  • Yesterday I drank over a gallon if water. I hope its going to help. My doc didn't say anything about taking it easy or bed rest, which surprised me. Maybe he is waiting to see what the next ultrasound and high risk doc say. My appointment is for tomorrow at two (thought it was for today, I was mistaken). I am supposed to go see James Taylor with a large group of friends and family to celebrate my hub's birthday after my appointment . I wondering if all that walking is a bad idea. Hmm. Guess. I will wait to talk to the doc.

Definitely up it. A half gallon is 64 ounces and you should be shooting for a minimum of 80, and with low fluid I'd aim even higher. Good luck! And just ask your doc about James Taylor . He is pretty amazing live so I hope you get the green light

  • I drank 168 ounces yesterday, not even exaggerating. I am keeping my fingers crossed about James Taylor. I organized the whole evening and am really looking forward to it. It is at a pretty big venue and I know it'll be a lot of walking. We shall see!

  • I had my 37 week check-up last Thursday and they did an ultrasound. My fluid was measuring low. The first measurement was 4.1. My Doctor then wanted to re-measure and ended up getting a better reading at 6.2. She then checked my cervix and said if I was dilated 3cm or more that she was sending me straight to L&D. SO and I were shocked! Definitely weren't expecting that. After checking my cervix, I was only dilated 1cm. She told me to rest, stay off my feet as much as a can and most importantly HYDRATE. I had to go back Monday for another ultrasound, but she basically told SO and I to enjoy our weekend as she thought I was going to need to get induced after Monday's appointment if things did not improve. However, Monday came around and I had my ultrasound... my fluid is in the 8-10 range now. So it can improve. I really made sure I was constantly hydrating and relaxed as much as I was able to. I get restless very easily, but have been forcing myself to lounge around more. I might as well enjoy it while I can. Lol! Not sure if this correlates with anything but I noticed the few days before my 37 week appt I was constantly on the move between errands, chores ect. and probably did too much. I think the most important thing is staying hydrated (aiming to drink a gallon a day) and resting as much as you're able to.

  • I know that GD and low fluid go together. I don't know why or what to do to help it but I would google that. Is your GD under control? If not that might be cause.

  • @Bonnesetter27‌, yes me GD is under control. I take Glyburide for my fasting number and it works wonders. The rest of my numbers are great and controlled successfully by diet.

I have been taking it easy and drinking the equivalent of a large swimming pool of water a day. I am hoping this helps . . . or better yet, I am hoping they see some pocket of fluid that the baby was blocking during today's ultrasound.

I will keep you all posted. Thanks so much for your responses!

  • Keep us posted !
  • When you say constantly do I mean all through the day ? And was it very noticeable ? I'm curious on everyone leaking because they told me inlay have had prom but leak possibly sealed off so I was sent home all my fluids keep measuring well , not sure if it's because of the water I keep drinking but I notice in the morning after my first trip to the restroom a little wet in my underwear I'm not sure if it's due to not owe in everything out or not it's only in the am
  • Went back to the doc yesterday. My fluid level was at 12. Thank God! So, either rest and tons of water helped or the baby moved and they found more pockets of fluid . . . or both! So, so far so good. This baby can keep on cooking for a little bit longer.
