TTM about high chairs

Any recommendations?

Can a baby be too little for a high chair?  I don't mean not ready for one but literally too small to fit in it properly?

Re: TTM about high chairs

  • We had a FP space saver high chair for DS1 and LOVED it! He could fit in it comfortably from day 1 (we reclined and he sat there while we had dinner) and we finally put it away when he was 3ish. We eventually took the tray off and it worked like a booster seat.

This time we opted to go with a chicco rolling high chair so we could roll it into the kitchen/dining/living room as we wanted. DS2 is 20 lbs and 27 inches (size because relevant) he can sit in the chair but can't comfortably see/reach on top of the tray.

I much prefer the FP space saver.

  • We have a graco 4-in-1. It seems like it can grow with LO (maybe this is ftm
Idealism?). It fit our price point and had a couple features we liked.

  • We are getting the Ikea one this weekend. I love the clean, simple look and size. Oh and the price is great too!

Like @DreamingBabies‌, we use the antilop from IKEA. It's probably best for little bigger babies, size 6m and up. It's made for sitters with only a waste buckle. We do have DS in it now with a blanket behind him to kind if push him toward the table.

For a littler babe, maybe look for something that comes with a 5pt harness, that way you know it's designed for 4m+ And should offer the support a littler body may need.

    Good luck!

  • We also went with the FP Space Saver. It reclines so we've been able to use it since she was about 12lbs no problem.

  • I really like our Ikea Antilop. Cheap, small, and easy to clean. You could always take LO to the store to test out high chair fit.
Same. We have two. IKEA sells a little pillow insert for it that helps babies sit up. We use it when feeding DS solids.

+1 it's so easy to clean, and easy to move around with the hand hold on the back.

  • My biggest recommendation would be to get a high chair with a removable/machine washable cover.

I just threw away my high chair that I had for my first two kids and bought a new one for this LO because it got so gross.

When I bought it, it was a cute high chair with an "easy" to wipe clean backing. It didn't matter. Kids are messy and they will stain it and get food stuck on there.

This.  My Graco high chair got DISGUSTING.  Be sure that either the cover comes off, or there are absolutely no crevices, corners, or creases where anything can get stuck.

We now have the Oxo Tot one, which I adore.  It looks nice, plus I can easily clean up all the spit-up.

DS3 is a little peanut (25%ile for height, not even on the charts for weight) and he can sit in ours just fine.  It doesn't recline, so we had to wait until he could sit up pretty well.

  • We have the graco space saver one not sure what it's actual name is but I love it, I got it $30 off from BRU. LO has been using it for a month and she doesn't mind being fed in it, still just bottle but I'm trying to get her warmed up to eating solids in the chair

  • Something like the FP space saver is better for a younger baby because there is more support than something like a tripp trapp. The TT is probably better in the long run. When we had our first we got a space saver second hand for basically nothing and then graduated to a keekaroo (which is similar to a TT.)

  • I've never had that 0-6 insert thing for our wooden chair which is why I say it isn't that supportive for a younger baby.

  • We just got the FP Rainforest chair. It was on clearance for $30 so I'm happy. I'd had my eye on a pricey Peg Perego one, but since the FP was was $200 less I figured it was worth the test drive. LO has been in it for 20 minutes and seems to be enjoying it. No slumping, and he's chubby, but pretty short
