Cloth Diapering

Lurker with a sad question

I apologize in advance for coming out of nowhere, but I am beside myself with not a clue how to rectify what's happened to my precious diapers!

I'm currently on vacation with my extended family and some dim bulb took my precious dopes and threw them in the DRYER after the COLD wash without asking. So now I have freshly dried dirty diapers and wondering what the best course of action is to minimize damage/get clean.

I literally just started crying when I saw what had happened:(

  • Ugh, that totally sucks.  I'm certainly no expert, but I think your only choice is just to wash them again and see what happens.  If you use bleach, I would add a little bit to the wash.  Sorry this happened, but I'm sure your diapers will survive!! :)

  • Throw them back in the wash to get them clean.  Wipe down the dryer.

Unless they were dried on high, it really shouldn't do much damage.

I've thrown my pockets and covers in the dryer several times on accident.  It won't hurt them unless it's done repeatedly.

  • Oh and by repeatedly I mean all the time.

If you are concerned, turn your pockets inside out and stretch the PUL to look for cracks.

  • Wash them with some tide.  CD detergent may or may not get them as clean when they've been put in the dryer dirty.

  • Thanks ladies:) I think I was having a breastfeeding hormonal mom moment
  • I'd just wash on hot as normal, then check afterwards. If still looking dingy, throw em in for another cycle. I doubt too much (if any) harm was done!

And wiping down the dryer is a good idea.

My husband did the same thing a few weeks ago (hung up covers, inserts in dryer).  I just did my normal hot wash routine and all seems fine.

And i understand the hormonal moments;)  I FLIPPED OUT on H when he put a dryer sheet in with the inserts when we first started CDing, but all is well!

  • I dry all my diapers every time. 50 min on low followed by 15 min on medium. I'd just restart the whole wash routine again.

  • This happened to me friday and I just put them back in the washer and they were fine!  My dryer does smell like pee now though.  Ugh.
