PR Food ideas (non-picky eater related)

Right now Reese seems to have a very big interest in food--particularly produce. That doesn't necessarily mean she eats it but she loves helping in the kitchen and the grocery store is her favorite place to go to. She could easily spend a good hour just looking and picking out fruits and vegetables. (Again, doesn't necessarily mean she eats it or tries it).

I love this interest of hers and completely want to capitalize on it.

Any fun ideas? Recipes?

  • Does she like pickles? There are tons of recipes for refrigerator pickles. They are ready to eat within a few hours.

Does she like to help prep? Maybe buy her a set of plastic kids chef knives? Like this:

That brand has a lot if different kits for kids who want to cook.

  • My first thought was letting her choose what fruit she likes and then using kids knives to let her help make a fruit salad.  You could also do a pasta salad with veggies she likes.  Something simple that would be easy to get her involved with.

  • I love these ideas! Unfortunately we have a fairly big property--but HORRIBLE for gardens. The soil is too sandy/acidic. We are completely in shade, etc. I may try canning with her--I have never done it though, so it would be an experience for me as well.

She does eat most fruit and some veggies, but she likes the idea of vegetables more than she likes eating them :)

  • Can you do an inside garden or one on your deck if you have one? My neighbors are currently growing squash, peppers, tomato, chocolate mint, etc on their deck.
