birthday party theme change question

edited July 2014 in September 2012 Moms
So, I was originally going to go with a train theme since little man loves them, and I thought it could be super cute. I looked into renting a trackless train, but can't justify $300. Now, I've decided that I want this:https://www.amazon.com/Peg-Perego-Ground-Tractor-Trailer/dp/B002PEGT9U/ref=sr_1_1?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1405565963&sr=1-1&keywords=tractor for his big present. Now I'm wondering if I should change the theme to tractors/farms. What say you s12? Chugga chugga choo choo Alexander's turning two, or horses neigh, cows moo, Alexander's turning two (or something like that)?

Re: birthday party theme change question

  • I think you could do either theme or just turn it into a 'things that go' party.

We aren't set on a theme. I keep flip flopping between Sesame Street/Elmo and construction vehicles...

Edit: decided on a "construction theme" since E is about all the construction vehicles. He's literally obsessed.

  • If you haven't purchased anything for the train party, I'd switch to tractors!

If it were me, I'd probably change the theme to go along with the big gift - providing I hadn't already purchased things for the original theme.
    Yup!

  • I never really knew the gifts were supposed to match the theme before being on here. If it works out, then great, but I don't see why they have to match.
  • My gifts rarely match the theme so I don't really think it matters. But I don't give them any gifts at their party either, so I guess that makes a difference.

Us too. Gifts don't match the theme and often we give the gift(s) from Mommy & Daddy on their ACTUAL bday, which don't always match up with their party date.

  • I don't usually have gifts match the theme (with SD) but since its such a big gift and he loves tractors just as much as trains, I thought maybe it would make more sense. I plan to have it built and charged before the party. He saw a picture of the tractor on my tablet, and said Aj tractor, aj ride tractor. Mine. So I know he will be geeked about it. I'm super excited now! Which is good because I was a little bummed that I couldn't make the trackless train work.

  • Are there going to be other kids at the party? This may sound horrible, but if there are I wouldn't give that gift to him at the party. Everyone is going to want to ride it, and he may have a hard time sharing his brand new toy. It could lead to a few meltdowns.

Or maybe it's just my boys that would have a problem with that. ;)

Not just your boys. L would flip her shit if she had to share something she was just given.

We never give our gift at the party. Last year for his retro race car party, he got a retro race car the morning of his actual birthday and I used it as decor at the party. With my kids, if we give them something a couple days before, they are good to start sharing soon after. But they have also grown up with a driveway full of toys being shared by all the neighbor kids.

Our gift won't match the theme. Uhhhhh, but I HAVE to get that tractor for A. He will go apeshit.
Ha, I was thinking the same thing about E. Our neighbors next to us have one in their yard and if it weren't fenced in, E would've stolen it by now.
