Help my boob!

I breastfeed/pump and at my pp checkup July 1, my OB felt a small lump just above my nipple. She said to make sure to feed LO and pump enough to get whatever was in there out. Well I pumped and fed LO and it remained after a week, same size, no pain. I previously had a cyst and just figured it returned. I should note, we were in the midst of moving at this time so life was hectic, otherwise I would have been more diligent about getting this checked. Well fast forward to this week and my lump had about doubled in size. It's about a 1.5 inch diameter lump and now quite painful. I'm in a new city so as a new patient I don't have an appt with a new OB until Monday. I've noticed my supply has dramatically dropped on that side and not sure if it's just all blocked. I don't have a fever or flu like symptoms. Any advice or help until Monday? I've tried warm compresses, pumping, massage, hot showers, and just went and bought a cabbage. Please help!

I've heard that if you point LO's chin towards the lump while nursing that will target the clogged ducts. Fingers crossed that's all it is.

  • I would be careful with using the cabbage leaves if you are worried about supply as I have heard that they dry you up!

    This.

Also, try a hot shower followed by pumping in doggy style. Has worked every time for me.

  • I read online about cabbage leaves helping to relieve clogs. At this point I'm desperate for a solution as my breast is super painful. I will definitely try the doggy style nursing. Even if it doesn't work I'm sure DH will get a kick out of that.
  • You can point your babies chin at the lump or if you are pumping you can point the pump. I had a lump that I got rid of by using a warm compress, then massage, and then pointing the pump at the highest setting. It took a few times but I got rid of it :) good luck!

  • I EP and I've found a warm shower followed by pumping while massaging the area firmly helps a lot (it does hurt but once it clears it will feel better).
  • This happened to me on vacation. Woke up and part of my boob was rock hard and painful. It went away after a few days but I also noticed a decrease in supply on that side. I think it was from being on vacation and not my normal schedule. I was giving LO more bottles and pumping so others could feed him. Maybe moving caused the same thing?
  • Thanks so much for your feedback. I begged for an appt today and luckily they could squeeze me in. I'm not sure what they can even do for me but it's sooo painful and not sure I could make it though the weekend. I birthed this baby without pain meds and am finding this more painful. Hoping for the best. Thanks ladies.
