Is he a vegetarian?

I think my son is a vegetarian. He won't eat most meat that we serve him. The only meat he eats is hotdogs and chicken nuggets. It used to be meatloaf and chicken breast.

What gives? Also, he won't try any new fruits or veggies. Bananas and mandarin oranges are the only ones.

Re: Is he a vegetarian?

  • Yep, sounds normal to me. DD1 wouldn't eat even a hotdog until recently. At 6 she'll eat chicken and beef if it's taco meat. DD2 eats a little more but she is getting picky these days.

  • i've heard that toddlers often get pickier around this age because their growth rate from 2-3 is much slower than it was from 1-2. also that you should look at their intake of the different food groups over a week or so, rather than daily, as it often tends to balance out.

i would just keep offering a variety of healthy options, including one option that you know he likes. if he gets hungry, he'll eat. ;)
  • My DD only cares for soft meats. Like, she will eat chicken from the slow cooker, low-and-slow BBQ a pork, and turkey in soup. But grilled chicken breasts or steak? Not so much. I think it's about texture. We just serve her whatever we are eating and she can eat the parts she wants!
  • Good to know that this is normal. I was getting worried.
