Do You Think This Is Annoying?

I have a friend who posts on FB, maybe once every 6 months or so about how annoying it is when random people come up to her and say, "You have your hands full!"  I get this same comment at least several times a week (I babysit for a little boy in our home so people assume I have 3), and honestly I kind of take it as a compliment.  I always just smile and say, "You said it!" or words to that effect.  The only time I thought someone was being rude was when this passenger in a car said, to the other guy, "She must have had them, one after another, after another!" and when I looked at him he just kept staring at me like we were part of the circus.  But other than that I just think people are being friendly.  Obviously tone plays a part, but if someone says it with a smile, friendly or annoying?

Re: Do You Think This Is Annoying?

  • I hear it all the time and no, it doesn't bother me at all.  I do have my hands full, but I think I handle it pretty well.

  • When my babies were younger and I'd go out with all the kids alone, it used to bug the crap outta me. Mostly, I think, because I always thought I had things under control and could handle all of my kids on my own and it bugged me that someone would imply that I didn't or couldn't. But now I know I got my shit together (most of the time!) so the comments don't bother me.

  • I take it as a compliment.  My girls are awesome and I love taking them out and when people comment like that, it's always been in a friendly, sort of in "awe" kind of tone.

  • It didn't bug me the first 50 times I heard it, but now it's a little old.....not as bad as "double trouble," though....I really hate that one. :P I never respond....just smile and move on.

  • I have gotten that too and I only have two. But when you've got a needy newborn in one hand and an active preschooler and you're in the middle of the produce section, it's not an untrue statement

  • I get that all the time when I just have DD with me.  I totally feel like I have my hands full with her, so I just smile.  She keeps picking out bras in every store we go in (for herself) and people are loving it.  Little. character.

  • I get it all the time, and yes, it annoys me tremendously. I have a sort of half-smile, half-grimace that they usually get in return.

  • I get it when I go for a walk with ds in the stroller & our 2 big dogs. I usually smile and say "I'd REALLY have my hands full if we didn't get out of the house/get some energy out!" And that's the truth.
  • I get it a lot when we are out for walks or shopping. I usually just smile.

  • I don't mind it much.  I heard some crazy comments when I took my two kids and my two nephews and niece out, especially being pregnant.  Usually involving birth control.
