I didn't use my Fitbit One at all during pregnancy but I want to get back in the groove. I haven't recovered enough to really start walking for long periods of time but I at least want to start becoming more conscious of my activity level. Anyone else using/used a step tracker, program or etc or plan to after pregnancy? I'd love to know any tips or "tricks" you use to get motivated or get your steps in.
Re: Any Fitbit (or the likes) users?
i just got a fitbit flex (the wristband) about a month ago to start getting used to it and track my movements/food. i'm miserable at tracking food right now, but i'm really liking the functionality and how much it shows you.
after i have this little one, i'm determined to get back to my comfy weight within about a year...which is really optimistic, considering that i'll have upwards of 75-80 pounds to lose by the time i pop this baby out.
i linked it to my fitness pal b/c i like that app better than the fitbit food tracker - you can scan food and such, and they have a ton of items in their database - whatevey you eat, it's probably in there already. i work for a food service company (not a big chain or anything), and even the food/soups/salads/etc. that our chefs make in the cafeteria is in there!! it syncs all your calories in both apps so that you can track better.
i don't know about "tricks", but i've already made a list of the "bad" habits that got me to where i am right now, and an equal list of things that i can do to incorporate healthier habits in their place. times when i can get up and walk instead of mindless snacking - ways to get steps in, etc.
also, i made a schedule with DH of when i will be going to the gym - "my nights" so to speak. he's the type of person that needs to exercise every day in order to stay sane, but i was letting him take all the "good times" - times that were convenient to people with full time jobs and kids. and i was left with 5am...which isn't attainable every day. so we worked it out that he has evenings MW, I have evenings T, Th, we both take friday off, and split the weekends. if either of us wants to work out other days, then we'll have to suck it up and do a morning workout.
we joined the Y as a family, which is expensive, but has a childcare in it that stays open late and A TON of classes that i can take...i'm not good at working out on my own. so if either of us is traveling for work, the other can take the kids and still get a workout in. my son surprisingly likes the childcare room.
i think after all these years i'm ready - i was doing great when we were single/dinks, but it seemed like as soon as we got married i found every excuse in the book. i've been gaining weight steadily now for about 6 years, and i think i'm finally ready to take responsibility.
it would be great if we could all encourage each other!! not the weight part of course, but just to move and make sure that we are getting exercise - that's the most important part i find - to make some time for yourself...i haven't been doing that.
what happened to the monday healthy check in? i was actually starting to check in!!
I also use it in conjunction with My Fitness Pal, which lets you subtract breastfeeding. However the subtraction doesn't register with the Fit Bit app.
I love the Fit Bit, and I am super excited for the Tory Burch accessories to jazz it up a bit.
Would you guys like to do a special check in for FitBit / Jawbone / Tracker users specifically or continue to check in on the Healthy Check In thread that was going on? I'm not sure who was in charge of that thread & I don't want to step on anyone's toes. I'd be interested in a check in thread for people using trackers or etc. Maybe once we're all settled more we can do some friendly weekly challenges just to motivate one another. Like, "Get 500 extra steps one day during the week" or something.
Opinions?
FOR BRASS.
As forcomparisons, I used to have the bodymedia fit, and the armband was a hassle. It has the same basic functionality of a fit bit, but you couldn't really override the steps with exercise unless you physically had it off of your body during that time. I would always either forget to put it back on, or lose steps while it was off.
The flex is not as accurate (or so I've read, but the difference is marginal), but it had more functionality and I think it guides you toward goals better.
Yay for a weekly check in thread!
The thread may be a slow go at first since many of us haven't had our kiddos, just now healing from birth or just have our hands full with newborn/family care. But I think it will be super motivating to us.
