Placenta Previa | Anterior Placentas

So, just as I had suspected, we found out at my anatomy scan today that I do in fact have an anterior placenta. I felt quite a bit more movement with DD by this point and since I haven't felt near the same amount, I had a feeling.

The tech wasn't able to get as close as she wanted with the external exam, so she did an internal to get a closer look at my placenta. I peed in between, which was apparently a big mistake. A woman's vagina contracts when she pees (ya learn something new every day!) and because of that, it interfered with getting the shots she needed.

She *THINKS* I have placenta previa, though she couldn't be 100% positive. I see my OB next week and she said he'll likely want me to go back in a few weeks for a follow up. It often resolves itself, which is great news. However, I'm of course still paranoid, especially because I want another successful vaginal birth and would really like to avoid a c/s.

Is anyone else experiencing this? Are there STM with success stories for me?? :)

Re: Placenta Previa | Anterior Placentas

  • I had an anterior placenta and there were really no concerns except that I didn't feel DS as early as other people normally feel movement. But after 20 weeks, I could feel him with no problems. I have no experience with placenta previa personally but I know a few people who've had it and it resolved itself each time. Good luck and I hope that placenta goes where it needs to go!

  • I found out by going through my medical records online that I have an anterior placenta this time. Makes sense why I really have to concentrate to feel my lil guy move. I don't have a previa though, most cases do resolve themselves though. Hope it all turns out for you.

  • I have an anterior placenta. I can only feel my LO in the bottom left corner of my stomach when he/she decided to hang out there. My placenta is taking up the right side. I didn't have this with my DS and felt him quite a bit by now. I don't have any experience with placenta previa, but I hope yours corrects itself quickly!

  • Lurking from May 2014. I had placenta previa (diagnosed at 20 week scan). It resolved itself 8 weeks later. For those 8 weeks I couldn't do any cardio except eliptical and was on pelvic rest. I was really concerned because I didn't want a csection but my OB told me they resolve themselves most of the time. It did for me and hoping it does the same for you. Don't worry, it is pretty common and most find out at the 20 week scan. I never had any bleeding, but if you do obviously contact your OB.

  • I had partial placenta previa at 15 weeks, which had totally resolved 8 days later at my next ultrasound. It resolves in almost all cases, and my OB said they won't even officially diagnose it until 20 weeks. I hope yours resolves as quickly as mine~

  • At my 18 week cervix TV ultrasound, they determined it was anterior and covering cervix (so I guess that means it covers cervix and goes up the front?). Anyway...they stopped short of diagnosing it as placenta previa until my anatomy scan, which is this coming Monday. It actually made me feel a little better that I haven't felt any movement yet (though baby is doing totally fine). I'm hoping it resolves itself because I would love a natural vaginal birth. But if a c-section is the best option and best for LO, then so be it.

  • I have an anterior placenta too and haven't really felt any movement (I'm 19 weeks).  They'll look more closely at placenta previa at my a/s in 2 weeks.

  • I have Previa and was told by my midwife that 80% of the time it moves on it's own. FX for both of us!

  • The ultrasound tech told me at my anatomy scan that I also have an anterior placenta. I have felt taps from the baby and I can tell they are getting stronger but I never felt the flutters everyone talks about. She said after a few weeks I should be able to feel just as much as everyone else cause the baby will be much bigger and stronger. Crossing my fingers the placenta previa corrects itself if they find out you have it.

  • I have a complete placenta previa at 19 weeks. We have had a couple of scarey bleeding episodes, the first of which occurred during sex. We haven't had sex since Memorial Day, but let me tell you, it's wise to abstain to avoid the bleeding. Most people with PP do not bleed until much later, like late 2nd or early 3rd trimester. Just stay positive and take it as it comes. When are they going to do the follow up ultrasound to confirm your previa?
  • It so often resolves itself! Don't worry yet (I know I know). I bet it will have moved by 28 weeks.

  • Yeah, I've been asking around a ton and most said it resolved itself. I haven't had even the slightest bit of spotting this entire pregnancy and we've still been sexually active.

When she did the internal to get a closer look she said it LOOKS like it's right up next to my cervix on the edge, but not actually covering it. She just couldn't be 100% positive because my muscles were contracting and sort of blocking the view. She said for now she was labeling it PP, but couldn't be sure without the follow up.

I see my OB on Tuesday and we'll see what he says. I know he'll want me to get a follow up, I'm just not sure when. I have a feeling he'll put me on pelvic rest for the time being though.

I'll definitely keep y'all posted. Thanks for the reassuring comments and while I wouldn't wish this on anyone, I'm glad I'm not doing it alone.

    Thanks ladies!!

  • I was diagnosed with Previa and an anterior placenta at 12 weeks during my nt scan.I've had a few episodes of bleeding and have been on bed rest since then. I go for my anatomy scan next week...I'm hoping it's moved!! I've only just recently started to feel the baby. I'm 19 w 4d today.
  • I have an anterior placenta.  They haven't talked to much about it at the doctor appointments.

I know that several other women have posted about Placenta Previa (couple in the last week or two).  So in addition to the responses you receive here there can be another couple of threads you can look at.

I tried searching using the search tool and couldn't find anything here (though, to be honest, I didn't glance past the first few pages). Yet another reason TB drives me crazy! I'll go searching around some more.
