AW Last day of ML

Can't sleep (which is the worst during DD's long stretch). Tomorrow (today?) is my last day of ML and I'm so sad it's over. I'm a nurse, and I work 12 hour shifts (which are really at least 12.5 hrs really), and I hate the thought of leaving her for so long. I haven't left her for more than 2 hours so far.

Working is important to me, and I know I'm lucky to only work 2 or 3 days a week, it's just so long to be away and I'm dreading it. Sorry for whining-- I know it will probably suck until it doesn't. I really feel for everyone who had to go back before 12 weeks, this is hard enough as it is.

  • I'm in the exact same boat as you. Except I don't go back until Tuesday. Gonna be hard since I work in L&D and will be around babies all shift.

  • @leahdipert‌ I'm always glad there are people willing to work L&D. I did my rotation in school, and seeing babies born was amazing, but that was enough for me! I work in cardio-thoracic surgical step down.

  • Couldn't imagine working any other area, I love it.
  • Sorry, I hope that didn't sound insulting. I had an amazing L&D nurse which made a huge difference for me. I love that nursing is a career with such a wide variety of options so that everyone can find their thing. Good luck to you next week!

  • Not insulted.
  • I'm also going back on the 28th. :( I'm EBF so figuring out this whole pumping between med passes is going to be a tricky one. I just look at the bright side and think of how many full days I get with the LO as compared to someone with an office job. Also, thanking God I don't work night shift which would even be harder. @-)

I'm dreading it too. I feel exactly the same way. I go back aug 2 and I cry at the thought if it. DH finally had to give me a pep talk and told me I need to get a grip.... That went well for him.

  • It's tough at first. I'm away from him for like 10hrs when I go to work. But getting home and having him wake up from a nap, or smiling right away from the sound of my voice helps it. Just knowing he actually knows his momma helps me a lot to get through my day. And then my days off I do a little extra snuggling. And I went back to work when he was 7wks. So if I could do that, you can do this. Again it'll be tough at first but it does get easier.
  • I work 12 hour nights so he is going to my parents house at night since my husband gets up for work ridiculously early.
  • I'm a nurse also. I work on a cardiac floor. I don't go back until August 13th but I'm already dreading it. I've even had dreams about it. DH keeps telling me to enjoy the time I have left but it is hard. The thought of someone else caring for my son even 3 days a week makes me sad

I go back to work on Monday.  At first I was looking forward to it but now I'm dreading it.  DH will be watching LO so I'm not worried about that.  I'm more worried about juggling everything.  I'm sure it'll work itself out, it'll just be an adjustment.

  • I'm going back next week Thursday. I'm a nurse too and used to work on a cardiac/orthopedic unit (weird combo, I know) but transferred to a clinic a year ago bc I thought it would be better for family life. Well now I kind of wish I would've stayed at the hospital so I could just work 2-3 12 hr shifts a week instead of 4 8 hr shifts. I'm hoping I can go down to part time or even PRN. But I know this job will be better in the long run, definitely less stressful! Good luck to all you ladies going back to work, I hope it's not too hard!
