Stroller decisions

Hi ladies. So this will be my first (due Dec) and I'm really stumped on what stroller to put on the registry. I've always though I wanted a jogger bc I'm pretty active. But I've read it can be quite cumbersome for everyday use, like for shopping. What does everyone recommend?? I'm thinking of going with Graco brand bc it is readily available at babies r us and affordable. I feel like registering for two strollers is greedy. What do I do.....

I've been wondering the same myself. I think I am going to start out with a transport system of some kind-infant seat and a light weight frame stroller to click into. I will also register for an umbrella stroller and then later on, we can buy a more pricey stroller if we decide.

  • You're right about the jogger being a little bulky for shopping, at least the one I had with DS was too bulky. I think your best bet is to go try some out at the store and see which ones move through the isles the easiest.

You can register for two. You may not get them, but some people go together and get a big gift, so it's okay to have them on there.

I am not going to be any help at all. I have never used a jogging stroller but have gone through about five different strollers since my oldest was born. He is 2.5 and refuses to sit in a stroller at all anymore. Lol!

This baby will sit in a Phil&Ted Dot stroller with double seat (with his one year old brother). The Dot is the most convenient and compact full size stroller I have found.

Honestly, the minute this baby is big enough to sit up in a stroller, I am getting the Kinderwagon double umbrella stroller. I am sick of hauling big heavy strollers around.

Go "test drive" a few different strollers at a local Babies R Us or Buy Buy Baby. Drive it up and down aisles and in and out the doors. Fold those suckers down and lift them like you are putting them in a car trunk.

If I had it all to do again (and had a single baby), I would probably get a frame stroller because they are so light and configurable.
  • Thanks so much! I'll def have to go test drive a couple. I suppose I could always buy the jogger later on anyway...
  • I have (and registered for) three strollers: a Baby Jogger City Mini (active/all-terrain stroller), a Graco stroller frame for my infant car seat, and a cheapo umbrella stroller. I used all three extensively and wouldn't change a thing! Two of them were really cheap, however. I don't think one stroller exists that's good for every situation. I'd register for as many as you think you need (within reason) then check things like Craigslist if you don't get what you want. It totally seems excessive, but it's not IMHO.

  • 3 years in my city mini is still my fave stroller. You can get an adapter bar for it that your infant seat clicks into. I'd get a separate jogging stroller. They really are bulky for every day use.

  • With DS I had a (borrowed) uppababy vista and I LOVED it. My friend needed it back for her baby so I got a cheap jogger ($50) online that is good in snow or long walks but definitely not convenient for much else. I have a Quinny umbrella stroller which is perfect for the mall or other quick trips. For this little one I'm looking at getting a used City Select so it can be a doubler or a single. If you are thinking of having multiple kids fairly close together I suggest you consider something that can later turn into a double. I would register for the one you want. Worst case scenario is that people just buy you gift cards to use towards it. When our first was born we had at least $500 in toys r us gift cards so we could have easily bought a pricier stroller if we had needed one. Good luck. And definitely test drive!

  • I have an Uppababy Vista and I have loved it. I borrowed SIL's BOB to try out and it was super bulky for stores and aisles. So that also pushed me toward the Uppababy. And also the fact that it was well built and could convert to a double. Basket room and ease of pulling my bag in and out were also important to me. But I'm weird that way.

I believe Britax makes a similar style and It's cheaper. I would try a few out in the aisles and see which you like best.

  • We just got a Joovy jogging stroller a few weeks back and there is no way I would use it for anything other than jogging, it's really long and heavy! So, I decided to get a smaller stroller too!

  • For DD we had a bugaboo bee and I loved it! It was light weight and I travelled a lot with her so for work and it was a breeze getting it in out of vehicles. The downside is the price, but I still feel it was the best choice at the time.

This time around I'm looking at the city mini and mommas and pappas armadillo. Theatre both light and easy to maneuver.

  • I asked a similar question recently about registering for two strollers (a jogger and a normal one), and was told by a lot of STMs that was normal. The jogger is too big to use as a daily driver. Lucie's List was really helpful for this.

@jlbeanza and @KSwitz011, I'm totally with you on the City strollers. I'm personally leaning towards a City Select Double for this babe and DD. However, the City strollers aren't jogging strollers. They're misleading given their name, I know. Just thought I'd share in case you didn't know... :)

OP, I wouldn't recommend the travel system. We got the Chicco Keyfit travel system. While we loved the seat and will use it again for this baby, the stroller is SO big and bulky. It didn't take long for us to realize it wasn't convenient for travel. So, we bought the Chicco Liteway and that stays in our car. The Keyfit stroller stays at home and we use it for neighborhood walks.

  • We have 2 strollers. The Baby Jogger City Mini (all terrain but not a jogging stroller) which is awesome and we have the Chicco car seat adaptor. We also have a random jogging stroller that is a hand-me-down that I never used because I do not run but my husband likes it. If you want a jogger I think 2 strollers are a must!

Haha, I know...I'm totally not a jogger. I do camp/hike though, so it's pretty perfect for rough terrain/flat trails (I have the GT). I just bought the City Select double off Craigslist, so I'm totally brand-loyal. I love it so far!
