Rant

Ok so my husband is in the Army. Anyways back in May we got order's to go to Hawaii. We were supposed to be there on May 23 so the Army movers came on May 14th packed our stuff and sent it to Hawaii then we went to Atlanta to spend some time with his family until we had to fly out. Two days before the 23rd we got a call saying they diverted his orders to Fort Campbell and we needed to be there by the 23rd. No big deal it's a 5 hour drive from Atlanta and is only 3 hours away from my moms house, was kinda happy about it.

Here's the problem all our furniture was you guessed it on it's way to Hawaii. We caught it in California a few days after we got here and had them re-route it here. Just called the company and was told it might be until September before we get it. What!?!?!?!?

We've been in our house two months, already with no furniture, or our own pots and pans and dishes, plus all my kids pictures and photo albums are packed up in a keep sake box and I miss those things. GRRRRRRRR This is ridiculous.

  • When my younger brother was discharged from the army it took 6 months for him to get his stuff back. I think he only owned a guitar and a few dishes at time, I can't imagine what having all your furniture in limbo feels like! ugh

  • That sounds absolutely horrible. I only waited the standard few weeks for my things from our last pcs and that sucked enough. If you're on an air mattress, those egg crate looking thing mattress toppers really make a difference. I'm so sorry!
So not your fault, you have nothing to be sorry for. Thank for the advice I'm gonna have to get me one of those egg crate things

I can answer that question: nope.

    Hi,
Your situation is awful, sorry that you're going through it. We're at Campbell too. We have found that it is a great area and there is actually quite a bit to do. I hope you find things that make you happy while you're here, it makes a big difference.
  • My friends were stationed at Campbell for a few years! I remember it being very much like what has been described, lol. Quite the difference from Hawaii and TN! Why the rapid change?

  • @ME+ do you live on post.

@createmagic14 my son has Aspergers and they said he could get the care he needed here and wouldn't be able to get it in Hawaii

  • Hubby is retired Army Scout. Took less time than that to get our things to the states from Germany. Talk to his CO. See what can be done. In the meantime rent furniture from Aaron's and see if the Army will reimburse you for it

Ah, that makes sense.  Is there anyone you can talk to about your stuff?  I hope you get it much more quickly than they are saying right now!

  • Oh, another thing about Clarksville that you should know: under NO circumstances should you go to Gateway Medical Center. Either go to the base hospital or go to Nashville. The stories I could tell you about that place...

We live off post. Exit 11 area. If you're interested there are a few mom groups in the area. I'm partial to MOPs, of which there are three in Clarksville including one on post. (But there are others - MOMs of Clarksville is one; I think you can find them and more through FB) Both the Clarksville & Ft. Campbell libraries have reading programs for kids. I've never been to the Campbell library programs but the Clarksville ones are great. Also, throughout the summer there are lots of free outdoor concerts and movies. I realize that I just provided a lot of unsolicited information, I hope that's okay. I just remember it took me a while to find some resources, but once I did I started liking things a bit more. How old is your son?

Also, I totally agree with PP avoid Gateway, BACH is at least as good if not better. Of course, Vanderbilt is the best.
  • @ME+ I'm on the Fort Campbell MOPs facebook page. DS is 4 DD is 9 months. We've been doing the Fort Campbell library reading programs, I think thats one of the first places we went when we got here. We live on post by Gate 10. I really appreciate all the information.
