Nervous!!!

Had my 16 week check up today. Good news my baby is in the 1 in 10,000 bracket for Down syndrome. Not so good news that Baby dropped into the 1 in 235 for trisomy 13/18. My doc says it could be a false positive and they will be able to figure that out at my anatomy ultrasound next month. So until then I get to worry. Not that it would change how much I love my baby, would just mean I need to get in a different mind set. Has this happened to anyone else and how did it turn out?

Re: Nervous!!!

  • I know a lot of things can be false positive. I got the testing with DD but with all the false positives I decided not to even get the testing this time around. Keep your head up and think positive.

  • Thank you. I shall try to not worry so much.
  • Was 1:45 for Down Syndrome. Had an amnio and my LO does not have it. I will NEVER have any genetic testing done again. Keep your head up the odds are greatly in your favor. Praying everything works out for you and your LO.

  • 1 in 235 would be considered a false positive? That's still a 99.57% chance of no chromosomal abnormality. Good luck.

I think she means false positive in terms of a diagnosis. This is a positive in terms is the screening test but a 'false positive' when it comes to actual diagnosis. I hope I am making sense.

  • Thanks guys! :) I will try to keep my head up. And yes the doc was saying that it could be a false positive after looking at all other factors and the results of my next ultrasound. Thank you all for the support!
  • Keep your head up and try not to worry too much between now and your next scan.  Are these results from one of the Harmony, Panorama, etc tests?  If not is it possible to do one to give you some piece of mind sooner than your next scan?

  • No the results aren't from one of those tests. It was just blood tests from the first trimester screening. And doc told me to wait because so far my insurance hasn't been covering anything! It's super annoying. Lol
