Miscarriage/Pregnancy Loss

Cramping normal 3+weeks out?

So I had a natural miscarriage over 3 weeks ago. I haven't bled for almost 2 weeks but started cramping today. Is this normal? I have no desire to contact my OB/GYN because they've been pretty crappy. Obviously I will if I have too :/ Anyone?

Re: Cramping normal 3+weeks out?

  • Everyone is different, but if it feels like normal period cramps it's probably not a huge deal. Cramping/spotting can last weeks.

Did you have it confirmed that the miscarriage was complete? If not, it's possible there is still retained tissue and you'll start bleeding again in a few days. It's also possible (depending how quickly your hCG levels went back to normal) that you're getting your first post-loss period.

If you don't want to deal with your OB, could you call your GP? Or does your ER have a nurse line you can call?

  • At my office visit while actively miscarrying, they did a urine pregnancy test, which was negative. I was told things were progressing naturally and unless I started out of control bleeding or passing huge clots, I would be fine. I was never scheduled or asked to call to have further lab testing.
I bled for a week, like a normal like period. The cramping and clots were significantly bigger than a period.
Now, weeks later, I'm having minor cramping. We just moved to the area and yay I found the shitty OB/GYN right of the bat :(
  • If it's been over 3 weeks, my first inclination would be that it's AF returning...but of course, I have no real way of knowing. I had a horrible experience with my OB office for our first loss, so I can sympathize with not wanting to deal with them again. I would wait and see- if you start bleeding in the next week, it's probably AF...if the cramps get too bad or you start to have issues, I'd call an OB even if that means calling a new office you haven't visited yet and explaining the situation.

Most doctors don't do any further testing unless there are complications or you're dealing with RPL. It can be frustrating, but there really isn't much of anything they can do. Some will follow your hCG, but usually only if there is a history or complication.

I'm sorry you're having to deal with all this. Take care of yourself.

  • This is exactly what I am experiencing. I came here looking for answers too. My natural mc was 3 weeks ago, I bled for a good week. Woke up this morning with cramps and have been bleeding.

Thinking its my period, but dont remember it coming back this quickly after my 1st mc. I will prob call dr tomorrow just to talk to someone. But I am so sick of going there for bloodwork. I go again next week.
