I'm with @elf828 on this one, mainly because my H LOOOOOVES Frank Sinatra and everything he does annoys me.

@armfruit I much prefer Harry Connick Jr's Christmas Pandora station....and I thumbs down all of the Sinatra jams that come through.
    LOVE Harry Connick Jr!

ETA:  I effing HAAAAATTTEEEE that Christmas Mariah Carey song.  When I worked retail at Christmas they played it 8000000 times per shift.  I want to gouge my eyes out when I hear that one.  Also, that horrible Last Christmas song.

  • Speaking of Christmas music, I love Mariah Carey's "All I Want for Christmas is You" and play it on repeat for days at the start of the season every year. I have also been known to play it at random throughout the year. Because AMAZING.

So I guess my UO is I LOVE MARIAH CAREY. I'm listening to my MC Pandora station right now. :x
I used to like Mariah Carey. But then I heard her say her voice has 8 octaves which is more notes than a piano. I just couldn't anymore.

I still have her Christmas cd though.

And if I ever hear Hero on the radio I might sing along.

I worked at the Gap during Christmas season one year in college and this NSync gem was on their playlist in the store. Even though I heard it eleventy million times, I still love it. It goes up their with Mariah.

    Sorrynotsorry

    ETA: clarification.
That one doesn't bother me too much :)  A lot of the songs I don't mind, but those two particularly grated on my nerves!

  • Regarding tipping:

We tip very well (20%+) but if a server does not do their job (check on drinks, get orders right, etc... things THEY are responsible for) I don't think they should EXPECT to get a tip. I am talking if they aren't doing their job, not if it is the kitchen's fault etc.

    Springs1?

LOL. Don't page her!!! We do not need that nonsense in here today!

I love Sinatra. My step dad played him all the time when I was little and he taught me how to dance to his songs. I also love Mariah Carey's music but she's gotten pretty cray cray over the years. NSYNC's whole Christmas album is great. I may own two of them because I temporarily lost one and couldn't go without.

I hate hate hate Madonna. Is that a UO?

    ETA  I hate Elvis too.

  • Another tame uo... I absolutely loath leather. I hate sitting on it, I hate the feel, I hate the smell, I hate how one sticks to it... I almost backed out of buying my car because of the leather.

    Give me fabric always.

  • @codypup - I'll take it further and say pigtails look stupid on anyone over the age of ~6yrs old. No exceptions.

@wildflower26 - I think servers should be paid minimum wage, and tipping can be done if you feel service was exceptional.  Mainly because I think paying waitstaff under minimum wage artificially pushes the costs of employment onto the customer when that's a cost that should be part of the overall business model especially if they are legally required to make up the difference. It seems like that system is set-up for abuse by both employers and employees.  While the base cost of food may increase but if you're not tipping an extra 20% then the total cost of the meal isn't going to be that different.

  • I guess this is a UO based off of my lending money post but I don't understand why you should only lend money if you're going to consider it a gift. A loan is something to be repaid so why have the expectation that you're giving the money without expecting to be repaid? I get that people get stiffed a lot but then my thinking is don't call it a loan if you know you're just giving them the money and won't get it back.

  • @Firefly9‌ The Thor thing just seems like they're pandering, to me. I know that he's had different forms, but it still seems stupid to entirely re-gender the character. Why not have Sif gain the power of Thor? Sif is badass. I get the need for strong female characters, but just write an interesting new one rather than gender bend a male character?

Also, I wear my hair in pigtails. Haters.
  • Just wondering how you tip on a dinner where you get expensive drinks. Say you are out for a meal and you order a bottle of wine, and you top off your own glass all night. Do you tip 20% on the price of the wine, or do you tip x number of dollars on the bottle? DH and I go back and forth on what is the best way to tip in this situation.
I'd just tip on the bill total, and leave out the wine price factor completely.

I hate Christmas songs in general until Christmas Day.  Too many years of retail, listening to the same songs for 10 + hours a day from the day after Halloween until Christmas.  For a long time I even hated Christmas.  I'm over that now.

Also, I despise the "Keep calm and...." memes.

GIve me all the Christmas songs especially the Alvin and the Chipmunks song.

I meant from a financial standpoint that if being repaid never happened I'd be ok. So, my budget isn't dependent on me getting that $$ back. But yea, I still expect the person to do so.

I understand pigtail braids for situations where you need to wear a helmet, like horseback riding, or biking. I have tons of hair and a low ponytail that would fit below the brim of these would be so uncomfortable with all that hair stuck to my neck. Otherwise, no.

Ok. Helmet wearers get a pigtail pass in the Codypup rule book. But ONLY if you undo the pigtails once the helmet is removed.

    B-)
Thanks for the exception (see avatar)!  I've tried several different methods and pigtail braids are the only thing to work for me during endurance triathlon.  I know others manage a ponytail, but for me, if it's low enough to go under the bike helmet, it's too low for the run (and annoying on the swim).

I agree!  A spinoff from Thor would be awesome, Sif is badass.  She can eventually get her own Marvel movie :)  My H says in an alternate future Marvel universe, he was a woman already, and in a "What if..." thing, Jane picked up the hammer.

There's a new Captain America now, too.  THAT makes more sense to me. https://tv.msn.com/tv/article.aspx?news=877908

I have an awful lot of opinions for someone who has never actually read the comics, just seen the movies :)

Huh, speaking of Thor, I forgot who I had in my siggy.  Drool.

@iwubrory‌ We had a loan with family on our first place (deposit, 1st and last). But we have also lent for the same for siblings. We also helped buy a car for a sibling. It was a fully written out contract of a loan. To me family is there to help a first time on their own feet young adult with no credit history.

Re:pig tails. 1 braid hits me in the face every time I bend down. Two stay to the sides. Bending down to collect eggs, or what ever and getting hit in the face every time gets old real fast. I also do the two braids when running equipment because of the safety gear. One braid takes too much room in the back and the equipment doesn't fit right.

  • Re: tips

I have not tipped for really poor service. DH and I are the only ones in the pub, and we can hear the waitress talking about how I am so difficult because I asked for dressing on the side (of my salad). We could hear the entire conversation, where she admitted she forgot to put in our order. I went out of my way to tip the chief, but not the waitress.

I'm not used to a tip being expected though. A tip is for something above and beyond, not for doing your job. Here we do because it's a poorly paid job, but fundamentally it's a broken system.

My UO: i think people should have to take a driving test for different environments. City driving Is vastly different then country road driving, summer driving is different then blizzard driving. It should be an endorsement(like a m1-motorcycle), but people should have the basics down on how to drive on a gravel highway, or how to drive around blind corners and hairpin corners. (Brought to you the a tourist from Alberta).
