Hip pain - help!

Yesterday DH and I went to the zoo and did a lot of walking. By the end of the day my hip joint on my right side was killing me, hurts to stand, hurts to sit, everything. I've tried stretching it our but this morning it's no better. I know our hips are going to hurt, but I would love any ideas to help it!

Re: Hip pain - help!

  • I spent some time massaging out my hips. I also like to use the foam roller at the gym.

  • Chiropractor and massage!! They will be your best friend throughout pregnancy. My low back/si joints have been really bad, I don't know what I would do without these two!
  • @CandEChicago I love the foam roller!

I've been having hip pain on and off too. I walk about 2 miles during my lunch break everyday and I try to make sure that it's active walking if I notice my hip paining me. I make sure that Im keeping correct posture with my chest lifted and my abs tight. I also try to focus on using my glute muscles to help lift as I'm taking steps. If I kind of focus on all those things as Im walking Ive noticed the hip pain lets up.

What is this foam roller you speak of? I apparently don't go to the gym enough X_X

You can get one for about $10 on amazon. I believe some come with an instructional video that goes over some basic stretches.

  • This makes me nervous for my trip to Europe next week. Wonder if my foam roller will fit in my suitcase....

  • One thing that helped me with hip pain was to lay on my side and have DH "jiggle my hips." My sister told me about it when I was pg with DD1, and while it works somewhat like a massage, it's just a quick way to get things moving and doesn't get DH's hands too tired.

I also have pretty bad sciatica during pregnancy. I have some good prenatal yoga stretches for it, and I also sometimes roll/sit on a tennis ball to keep my periformis and other hip/butt/thigh ligaments and muscles from being crazy (a tip I picked up from my chiropractor).
