S/O of UO: Worst sales pitch experience

When I was pregnant, this lady selling those body wraps came up to me and my group while we were eating and starting commenting on our food choices (mistake #1).  She then proceeds to indirectly tell me I'm fat (mistake #2 and #3 for wtf-ness).  BITCH, I'M PREGNANT.  Now, let me eat my Cinnabon in peace kthnxbai.

Re: S/O of UO: Worst sales pitch experience

  • We did one of those time share pitch vacations simply for the fact that it was so cheap.  We had absolutely no intention buy into a time share.  We just wanted the vacation and the presentation was supposed to be 90 minutes on the first day of the 5 day vacation.  3 hours later the lady was still going and we basically made her end but we still had to go through a meeting with some financial guys to see if we could even afford it.  They did the whole divide and conquer thing.  I was barely getting by as it was and I dumbed down some numbers and bumped up a couple a little and the guy looked at me and asked why I was even there if I could barely afford my bills.  I left there in tears (PMS didn't help) and DH told them all off as soon as we got our passes for the hotels and cruise.

  • we were shopping for a new pick up truck for DH. He wasn't particularly loyal to any brand so we decided to go test drive them all. When we went to the Ford dealership we were asking why Fords were better than Dodge or Chevy. His response "because they are built Ford tough" oh ok cool thanks! #weboughtadodge
ehhhhh makes me wonder about his overall sales skill when he knows nothing about the product.

Tell me you watch South Park and have seen the episode that is nearly identical to the story you just told!

  • A friend tried to sell us a Rainbow. She brought this pushy sales lady with her. She conveniently forgot to mention this other lady when she asked if she could come talk to us for an hour about this damn machine so she could win an iPad. We'd get a free 3-night vacation out it... No pressure to buy, promise! Yeah, okay...

Anyway the lady she brought with her was a huge bitch, said we were bad parents and LO would always be sick because we didn't have $2K to drop on something we could buy refurbished for $600 if we really wanted.

Also before they left DH (not me, it had to be DH... Rude! I guess my little lady mind can't handle big decisions??) had to talk to their even sketchier supervisor on the phone. He threw every incentive in the book at DH but he stayed strong.

Anyway they never signed the vacation voucher and we googled the company afterward, and it's another scam, as are most rainbow sellers.

Never heard of Rainbow but glad you didn't take the bait, though her condescending approach didn't help her. I feel like whenever FI and I go out, more people are direct to him and I'm just there. It really really annoys me and so I'll try and take the reigns and even STILL it's like I don't exist. HOW RUDE!

  • @Weljadraak‌ it's a water-based "air purifier" that you can hook up different attachments to like a vacuum, steamer, mop and whatever. It is an impressive machine but Google says it's generally made pretty shitty and it's almost impossible to find people to service them. Most sellers seem to be scammers. They tell you that you can keep the machine and if you sell x amount to your friends then they'll give you your money back. That's how people get dragged in. They can't afford to buy it outright.

It's Season 6, Epsiode 3: Asspen. Considering you've been through this, you'll probably keel over with laughter.

I once had a car dealer go get his manager when I started asking specific questions. The manager came in and said, "Come on, Baby, just buy the car." I thought he was joking at first. He wasn't.

We also did one of those vacation club offers because they were offering a hotel stay where we had a wedding to attend anyway. We eye-rolled our way through the presentations and conversations where they were obviously trying to size us up. "Oh, that's a pretty engagement ring. You must have picked that out special." Nope, it was a family heirloom. Nice try. They were so relentless that I pseudo-faked illness. I was pregnant, so I could have been nauseated for reasons other than their sales pitch, but it's doubtful.

Before we got engaged, we would go look at rings so DH would know what I like. One of us asked to see a ring in one store and the woman said, "that one is too expensive for you. You can't afford it". DH was so offended. He asked how much It was and after getting the price he said, "oh, that's half what I planned to spend" and we left.

DH is a push over for a sales pitch. He made me go with him to a pyramid scheme pitch and was ready to sign up. I constantly have to rein him in.

  • Last August we bought a house and wanted a new leather sectional and dining room set. We found a decent sofa one at one furniture store but it was a high price and no dining room set. We went down the block to another place and found a dining set we adored and a pretty nice sectional. We were 100% ready to buy that day so it could be delivered in time. The salesman was such a douche! He implied to DH that what we were choosing was probably out of our price range. I was so mad I didn't want to buy anything from him. I walk over to customer service to fill out a credit application so we would have 0 interest. When it came back I had been pre-approved to spend $10,000 (not what I was planning to spend BTW) he reappears to try and be the most helpful guy ever. Ummm fuck you sir!! I refused to get him any commission and grabbed another random guy to ring me up.

I heard somewhere that they look at your shoes and jewelry to decide how "rich" you are. Assholes. Lolz #flipflopzandnojewelrydoesntmeanimbroke
Hmm...interesting.  They gauge at restaurants, too.  Sucks for them because you rarely know the customer's background but the customer only needs to know one thing from you and that's "how is this person going to sell me this item?"

  • Oohh I HATE when sales people try and determine how much money I have to spend. I will immediately leave a store when that happens.

DH as well was looking to buy a new truck earlier this year and the general manager couldn't be bothered to answer his questions so we bought the same one at their competitors dealership. Stupid people!
