Hi Everyone --

We're going to be starting to TTC #2. Based on that, I think we're ready to begin weaning. I would love to hear any of your experiences on how you did it, how long did it take, how difficult was it for your LO?

Thanks all!!

Kate

Re: Has Anyone Attempted Weaning Yet?

  • We weaned when DS was a year. The recommendation I got from an LC was to eliminate one feeding a day for a 3-4 days, then another for another 3-4 days, until all of the feedings were eliminated. I took it a bit farther and eliminated one feeding a week for the sake of my boobs. :-) We were feeding 4x/day so it took us about a month. LO didn't really even seem to notice in my case, but I think he was at the point where he was pretty much done with nursing anyways.

I got pregnant about three weeks after weaning.  So watch out!  :-)  GL!

  • Wtf?? I can't edit...

I was TRYING to say that apparently bfing is not effective birth control for me!

  • This is probably different than what most do. But we stopped nursing cold turkey @ 14 months. She was good drinking whole milk but still nursed at night & nap & occasionally snacked but was rare. She stayed with my parents for the weekend & did fine. Didn't even ask for milk anymore. Not even when she saw me. She didn't cry either. As for me it wasn't as bad as I thought it was be as far as pain. It was uncomfortable for a couple days & I was sore, tender & engorged but then again I have a high tolerance for pain so maybe that's why. I'm sure it's different for every baby & I'm sure if she cried for it I would have given in. I miss nursing :(
  • Oh also. Once my baby stopped nursing it was like a whole new baby. She put herself to bed. No more rocking & nursing to sleep & she slept through the night!! She used to wake so often at night when I nursed.
