Vegetables by trickery

Just wanted to share a small victory with fellow bumpies...

DD has become really picky with vegetables, so it's been a struggle to get her to eat any. Today I cut up small pieces of cooked broccoli and added them to our burritos. Worked like a charm - she devoured them and I thought it tasted pretty good too! My mom always put cut up cauliflower in our macaroni and cheese. She makes it for my daughter when she babysits, and she eats that as well. I'm definitely going to keep going with this theme!

Any others to share?

Re: Vegetables by trickery

  • I puree some butternut squash and carrots and add that my my spaghetti sauce, he loves rotini noodles in read sauce so it's an easy way to get some veggies into him. I do the same thing with homemade pizza. I had some luck recently too with cheddar broccoli quinoa nuggets. He loves chicken nuggets, so i cooked the quinoa in a strong chicken stock, and he devoured them.

  • DS doesn't like raw vegetables, but he'll eat anything roasted, and loves it!  I think the crispy outside with the sweet and softer inside is what he likes.  I seriously can't make enough green beans for him, but he wants them left long not cut up.  DH made the mistake of cutting them last night, and DS just fed them to the dog and reached for the long ones on my plate.  Whatever gets him to eat them?!

Also, he loves sauerkraut.  It's not something I would traditionally think to give a toddler, but DH and I were having it one night, and he kept pointing to it, so we gave him some, and he loves it.  We make our own lacto-fermented kraut or buy the Bubbies kraut, so it's not as "tin can" tasting as the stuff you get on the shelf.  It probably reminds him of pickles, which we have to hide from him or that is all he'll eat.

He also likes to dip things.  With summer here, he's always looking for ketchup on the table, but I've started to give him a couple tablespoons of our homemade mild salsa, and he gobbles that up with his meat and vegetables.  I don't make my own ketchup, and while I buy the stuff without HFCS, I'm still not a fan of giving him stuff with so many processed ingredients everyday.
Me: unexplained infertility - annovulatory DH: testicular cancer survivor!! TTC since June 2009 BFP May 11, 2012 EDD January 24, 2013 June 1, 2012 - first u/s, heartbeat 124 BPM!! Welcome to the world my miracle, we prayed and prayed for you, and we can't believe you're here!
  • we're lucky i guess because she likes vegetables...however i found some squeezy fruit puouches, by dole i think? one is blueberry with carrots and one is mango with some other veggie....if for some reason she's giving us a hard time, she'll have one of the pouches....

I just saw a ridiculously good looking recipe by Giada on the food network: carrot and zucchini muffins. Dying to make it!

Giada has some awesome recipes like that for kids!
