Trying to Get Pregnant

Try this again.

I'm a 24 year old male, my fiancé and I are finally about to try for our first child. We need help with somethings, like what will all babies need? (Male or female) we're not going to be out buying soon but we would like to get a good list together so that when the time comes we're not scrambling around trying to think of what else we need. We have a family doctor who has given us a doctor for my fiancé and the soon to be baby. Money isn't a concern, our only concern is making sure we're as ready as possible because we know that in just a few months things are going to start moving so fast we can't keep up. Neither of us need any negativity but all advise would be appreciated. Again we are NOT buying things yet, we just want a good detailed list of non gender based things a baby and NEW parent would need. Thank you very much.

If you utilize the rest of Thebump.com - not just the forums - they have articles discussing this. I think its under the pregnancy part of the site, not under the conceiving part...

First off you should wait until she is prg to even think about what you need because the reality is that just because you have sex does not mean she will get pgr. It could take 1 month, 1 year or even longer. Its pointless to even consider buying anything before mid-pregnancy. You should be asking what you can do to increase your likelihood to get prg. You fi needs to chart. Have her read taming charge of her fertility. Now on the off chance she is a lucky one and gets prg right off the bat, baby needs cloths, place to sleep, bottles if you formula feed, a pump if you breast feed. Swaddle blankets, gas soothing drops, so e sort of bag to carry essentials in and a baby bath. Thats about it. You don't "need" anything else. Any extras are just bonus and a luxury.

    "Prg" sounds gross.
It sounds like the noise you make when you're drunk and about to vomit, but still trying to hold it together. "I'm fine! *prg*"

Seriously, get Taking Charge of Your Fertility, prenatal vitamins, and some wine/chocolate.  A list of things that turn your fiancee on is going to be more helpful than a list of baby gear.  Plan a vacation together.  It took me 5 months to get pregnant the first time, and that's not terribly long.  If you plan on getting baby stuff beforehand, also talk about what you'll do if you (as a couple) end up facing infertility, so you know that gear will be used (willing to adopt?)  Make decisions regarding medical care for pregnancy (homebirth, birth center, hospital, midwife or OB, doula or no doula.)  Discuss parenting practices you can both agree on.  What are bare bones things you each need to feel close to the other, because babies will occupy ALL your attention if you don't make the effort.

Even WITH moving twice, I was still twiddling my fingers the last two months of pregnancy, because there was nothing to do but wait for our kid to be born.  That's with no family or friends helping us to prepare.

Really, a 1-2 hour shopping trip at 6 months or so will set you up just fine.  No list I can find is exactly what we used - they all have extraneous stuff, or lack stuff we ended up needing.

You're taking it too far. It's no funny, in fact it's rather gross. Plus your quotes are all fucked up which is super annoying.
I was on my ipad.  it doesn't work well with quotes, or putting paragraphs either.  I noticed it just lumps my whole post together even if I have separated paragraphs.  rather irritating

I use my ipad to post all the time and I don't have that problem. You need to press the button with <> in it after you quote. Then you shouldn't have an issue with spacing either.

  • I didn't find out I was pregnant with the monster until I was 20 weeks and I STILL had plenty of time to get all the stuff I needed for his arrival.

Calm yourself, Mike.  Get a positive pee stick and then start a list.
