Working out-where do you find the time?

Ok so my twins are almost 6 months old and I haven't found a time to designate to working out.
Both my DH and I work full time so by the time I pick up the babies from daycare and we get home, we just want to relax with them before we have to get them ready for bed and the following day.
I know I could wake up around 5am to workout a little but my daughter likes to wake or fuss at night so I get up at least a couple of times to check on her and lately she has been wanting to eat a little.

Has anyone found a time to workout that works for you?
I need some suggestions to try to get back into it.

Re: Working out-where do you find the time?

  • What about during lunch at work? I feel your dilemma - we both work FT and getting all my kids to STTN at the same time is a rare occurrence. Even if I did want to get up before everyone (not an appealing option), they nurse in the morning and working out w full boobs is not fun either.

I usually leave work a smidge early and get a quick run in before I go home. Then on weekends I can go for a longer run over nap time.

  • @carrotcake06 I usually run errands at lunch so that isn't an option. Rather do my shopping with out the babies so I can get it done quicker :)

I am hoping that I can at least start something on the weekends and then incorporate it during the week later on.

  • This is a hard age. I didn't get into a good enough routine until mine were around a year and a half old.
With that being said - try not to get down on yourself and just find little bits of time. Anything is better than nothing, so if you can only go on weekends right now (try during nap time) that is what you will do. As they get a little older, it will get easier to find time. Just do a quick 10 minute out and 10 minute back run - do it as soon as your DH gets home and after the babies have eaten. GL and it will get easier.
  • I didn't worry about it too much at that age just because I was active doing a lot and breast feeding so I gave myself a pass. More around 8 months was when I started working out and have continued with using Jillian Micheal's workout videos. I use the 20 minute workout ones in the morning because they are quick and I work up a great sweat. Using the videos, I'm able to still hang out with the kids and keep an eye on them as they are playing on the ground close by. Some days they make it a little difficult with wanting attention but for the most part it works out well.
  • The only exercise I could manage at that age was walking - everything else was just too time-consuming. I would go on my lunch hour or after my kids were in bed. Now that they're older (20 months) and sleeping more reliably, I am able to get up early and go for a run before everyone wakes up. I like to think that someday I will have time to join a gym, go to yoga, spinning, etc. but for now running is the most efficient way for me to get my workout in. Walking is great because it doesn't require a lot of gear or a shower.

I JUST started exercising again and my boys are 10 months old. I have to get up at 4:45, pump for 30 minutes and get back in time to cool off and shower before they are up at 6:30. Not sure it is even worth it.

  • I work FT as well. I either workout during the day at work (I go running outside, usually) or I do it as soon as they go to bed (literally before I even sit down, because once I sit down it's all over and I'm a lump on the couch from exhaustion the rest of the night) in the evenings. I've never been able to get into an early-morning routine, and I'm OK with that :) You're still in the trenches in the first year, so take it easy on yourself because it is HARD at this age, but you'll find a rhythm that works for you. Could you combine your errands or cut back so that you could get 1-2 lunch workouts in a week, as a starting place?

  • Thanks ladies, I think I have just come to the realization that it might not happen until they get a little older (at least a good routine a few times a week).
They gets fussy after daycare when I bring them home, that I need to entertain them so it is hard to do anything let along cook dinner.
I swear the pizza delivery guy knows us my name now. It is so bad but even cooking dinner gets hard.
Thanks for all the help, really appreciate it. I will see what I come up with.
My daughter just needs to stop going through this growth spurt and waking multiple times during the night so we can get some sleep.

  • I've found time after I put them to bed, I go for a 30 minute run and if I feel up to it then do T25. Sometimes before dinner as a family we all go for a walk around the neighborhood and I push the stroller so I feel like I'm getting a workout. Its really tough like someone else said if I sit down after getting them to bed I'm not getting anything done.
