Today was DD's last day of summer speech (it's at the university and they have a break between summer and fall)
the therapist was excited because DD gave her buddy a hug when he answered a question during their 1-2 speech time.
DD even asked before giving the hug and waited for him to say OK.

DS1 loved the beach again! I'm thinking he hates the sun, hot sand, and reflective water. We went in the hot evening and he had so much fun with the sand.
To my boys: I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
DS is spending the week at my parent's house, 3 hours away. He has been pretty anxious about it for weeks- bursting into tears at mere mention of it- but on the day he left with them he didn't even cry. I gave him a hug and told him I was proud of him and he said "I have tears, but I'm trying not to let anyone see them." I wish he could show this type of emotional regulation in school!
Oh and brag for me- one week child-free. DH and I are treating every day like a holiday.
DD1(6) and DD2(3) both loved Frozen (big surprise), and DD1 had asked for a Princess Elsa dress for her birthday. I couldn't find one and refused to pay the jacked up prices on Amazon, but I've been keeping an eye out. Found one at Target the other day, so I bought it, and DD2 has been a hot mess over that dress ever since. I was trying to get them to take turns, but every time DD1 puts it on DD2 starts sobbing. DD1 has been so patient and tolerant about this, I am just amazed. She hasn't fought with DD2 about it at all even though she waited 3 months for that dress.
We're also on week two of camp, and DD hasn't brought a single toy from home in her backpack. This from the girl who carried a stuffed animal around with her every single day of preschool. Last year in kindie I allowed her to bring something small as long as it stayed in her backpack the entire time. I'm really happy that we're making so much progress with this.
DS went to the potty in a public restroom today without any coaxing or protests. He just said, "Let's see their cute little bathroom," (I had said this phrase to him a couple days ago at Learning Express) walked right in with me and peed in the potty!
He also did great at his birthday party on Saturday. We invited his whole class from school and 3 parents RSVP'd yes, but only 1 actually made it. The 2 kids from next door came over too. I was a little disappointed that only 1 kid from school came, but she was able to help DS open some of his presents (he's not a big fan of this) and blow out his candles (he doesn't like being sung Happy Birthday to, either) and he shared his toys well and didn't get possessive of his things or space. Success! He seemed to enjoy it overall and wasn't too stressed like he has been on past birthdays.
Also, we now have a playdate next week with one of the kids who ended up not being able to come (he fell asleep in the car on the way to the party). We haven't had many playdates in the past, so I'm really looking forward to it!
DS has been in OT for a year and never had the muscle endurance or core strength to peddle a trike. We have tried all kinds. We work on it all the time. The furthest he has gone is 20 feet--tops-- and its is so painfully slow and hard for him.
His birthday was about three weeks ago and he turned 4. We got him another trike for him (other one was getting small and the big wheel is still too big) because I am hell bent on getting him to ride!
Anyway, the two neighborhood boys came over (age 3 & 6) and asked if DS wanted to ride bikes. He was so excited to see them and immediately ran outside and we sort of reluctantly got the trike out hoping to get a few good pedals from him and then mayeb push him next to his friends.
BUT DS surprised us-- very slowly he pedaled for an HOUR! He actually finally figured it out and had the strength. Oh my gosh he was happy. I can tell it really wore him out but I was walking on air for the next few days! I even texted his OT because I couldn't wait until his appointment to tell her :x "> :x
We did family photos today and after how they went 9 months ago I was expecting another horrifying experience but DS1 turned into a little model today!
We went out to dinner over the weekend and DD1 got a make-your-own-pizza. After she got it back all cooked up, the first thing she did was hold up a slice so that all the toppings were sliding off. I pointed that out to her, and she offered the (now cheese-free) slice to me and said, "Mama, now you can have some of my pizza!"
I'm lactose intolerant, and she knows I can't have cheese. She wanted me to be able to sample the pizza she made. God, I love this child.
She was also very anxious about starting a new camp this week. Same location as some of her others, but a different subject (sculpture) and new instructor. We've been seeing more anxiety cropping up lately, and I was worried that we were going to be dealing with a meltdown, since the night before she was pretty ramped up about it. But the morning of, she and I talked some more, and it turns out that she was worried that this was a class for doing vs. a class for teaching, and that everyone else would already know what to do and she'd be the only one who didn't. We addressed that, she was able to get excited about the camp, and this is day four and she's had absolutely no bumps in the road. Go DD1!
