Trying to Get Pregnant

CD1 question

If you started your period sometime between 9 & 11pm, would you count that or the next day as CD1? I've been wondering why I'm not showing signs* of upcoming O yet & realized maybe I should be moving my CD1 to what I've been calling CD2. Also, when I move CD1 forward one day, it moves O forward TWO days.

* cervix is low & firm, no cervical mucus, negative O test strips. O (According to chart) is supposed to be today.
(I'm not temping because I don't sleep any long stretches).

  • I believe if it's light spotting don't count it as CD1 but if it's red blood than yes?

    Don't quote me on that but I swear I just read something along those lines on TCOYF?

    Either way, if you temp then you will know when O was no matter what day you call it.

  • FF says: Your menstrual cycle and your fertility chart start on the first day of full menstrual bleeding. This is cycle day one (CD1).

    That being said, I tend to count heavier spotting as my CD1 b/c I noticed my LPs were changing length drastically (and FF suggested I check into my charts). I don't recommend changing things without consulting their support section though.

    As for your chart, pay attention to your other signs of fertility for hints during your FW.. I strongly  suggest temping, you only need 3 hours of continuous sleep. Without a temping pattern, it's harder for FF to predict your O days based on temps (only temps can truly confirm O).

  • Can I temp if it's broken sleep but I don't get out of bed? I have a 20 month old who is still night nursing. Working on cutting him back to just at bedtime, which works some nights but many nights have frequent wakings between 3:30 & when I get up.

    I would go with when you need a tampon as CD 1. SO that night I would hit CD 1 on FF.

    You could just temp at 3:30 everyday if you have been asleep for 3 hours. I did this for many months when my sleep pattern was off. I just set an alarm, temped and went back to bed.

  • Yup, call it CD1. Like @Joy2611‌ said - it doesn't matter so long as you know what day you O.

    I'm going to suck it up & start temping in the middle of the night. Does it have to be the same time each night? Maybe I can just do at first wake up? Is it worth starting mid-cycle?

  • Different people have different experiences with temping. Some people need it to be the same time or their charts are all over the place. For me it just matters that I get 3 hours of sleep so whether it is 3 am or 5 am I can temp and see my pattern.

  • My chart works best when I temp at the same time. I often wake up an hour or so before my temp time thanks to my husband or kid but I don't get out of bed, so I just wait until my time. I have gotten out of bed in the past two hours before temp time and I have learned that it's the same time that works best and I can still see my pattern.

  • As PP have said, temping is different for different people...for me as long as it's around the same time every day and i've been laying in my bed mostly still for a little while, it's fine.  I get up to pee a few times a night, and frequently that happens less than 3 hours before i wake up the next morning.  Yet my temps are very consistent.  You should try temping for a cycle and see if it shows you any patterns, even with your broken sleep.  It could still work.
