Toddlers: 24 Months+

Had to share and a question...

We just booked a condo in Hilton Head, SC for next summer.  We haven't been to the beach in 4 years (we used to go every summer).  Ben will have just turned 2 when we go.  Some people are telling us, he's still too little to go.

My question is who has taken their child to the beach and at what age(s)?  Also, did they like it?

 Thanks!

  • ARE YOU SERIOUS????  Who told you that!  Tell them to go examine their head!  THEY ARE CRAZY!  We took Paige to the beach when she was 11 months old.  There was burnt fire wood all over the beach.  She was great.  She never once put it in her mouth.  She loved crawling in the sand.  She got it in her diaper and everwhere!  We had to take her diaper off and rinse her off because it was making her raw but that is the only complaint I had about all the sand.  SHE LOVED IT!  Those people are NUTS!  What was their reasoning?????

  • We went when he was 10 months old.  He absolutely loved it!  We are going back next summer.

Ben is so adorable, btw!  I'm sure he'll have so much fun.  Make sure you pack your sunscreen!

  • yea, whoever told you that is NUTS.  We live at the beach and DS has loved going since he was 5 months old.  I can't wait for this summer! He'll be able to "play" more.

FWIW: my best friend's son is now 3 but has loved going to the beach with us for about 2 years now.  He plays in the sand, runs in the surf, etc.  It's been fun taking him!

  • Let's see...we took DS for the first time when he was 4 months old.  Of course, we weren't on the beach very much, but we were visiting family and they live right on the beach, so it was good.  We took him again this summer, when he was 13.5 months old.  He loved it!  He was fascinated with the ocean and loved to just watch it.  He was turned off by the sand at first, but it didn't take him long to dig right in and start playing!

As, a matter of fact, we are about to take him back for his third trip to the beach tomorrow morning!!  (I'm packing right now, as you can see...lol!)  He's 19 months old, and I can't wait to see what he does now.

  • We took DD when she was 9 months. The entire trip she was SO cranky from teething, not sleeping at all, the whole nine yards. The absolute only time she was calm, slept, and smiled, was when we were on the beach, she loved it!

We will go this summer too, DD will be 18 months, I can't wait!

  • Thanks girls!  I feel so much better now.  I think people just don't realize how much babies love doing different stuff.  Maybe their kids didn't like it, and it left a bad impression.  I'm already looking forward to it.  I know Ben will love it because he loves doing new stuff.  He loves the outdoors and water so it'll be perfect!

Thanks again and Happy New Year!

  • We took DS to the beach at 3 months and obviously had to just be aware of what time of day he was actually on the beach and sunscreen etc.  Our pedi said sunscreen was much better than no screen at this age too  :)  I feel bad for those peoples children.  Do they live in bubbles and what else are they not allowed to do??? :) Don't listen to them, listen to us :) j/k

  • DD's first time was when she was 6 weeks old but if I were to take her now, I think she would absolutely love it!
