Question about cribs????

I've been looking at cribs online and in stores and I can't really decide on whether or not I should get a mini crib. I don't have a lot of space and they seem really convienent but then I think about what happens when the baby starts bouncing and standing and doing other typical baby things. I don't think it'll be as safe you know? And I don't wanna have to buy more than one crib. Any thoughts? Suggestions? Has anyone found a particular style of mini crib that sound good for my situation??

Re: Question about cribs????

  • I don't know much about mini cribs but let me tell you kids grow FAST. We bought a convertible crib which obviously is more money at first but it converts to toddler bed and then a full bed. So you are only buying ONE bed throughout their young life. It's worked great for us :)

  • Even if you get a minni crib you can lower the mattress. Thats what you do to prevent them from bouncing out or even climing out of the crib.
My BIL has two minni cribs one for each twin and they seem really nice. Also with his has had the option to buy conversion kits and eventually turn them into a toddler bed and then a twin size. I would invest money in that kind if you get a minni. Will save space and money in the long run.

  • I've never heard of a mini crib!

We got a relatively cheap, small, simple crib from IKEA for $89, and it's seen two kids.  I highly recommend it. :)

  • @thegoodpotato‌ $89 wow! If you don't mind me asking why not a crib that converts? Just curious :) Still not sure what I'm doing.

  • We have a full size crib in a cramped bedroom and I'm wishing we went for the mini crib option especially now that we will have two babies a year apart and will need 2 cribs. This week really showed us how annoying a full size crib is because we have family visiting in town and we can't move her crib out of her room and into ours unless we disassemble the whole thing. A mini crib would have worked really well.
  • @BeckyP005‌ it is a convertible. It has a high and low setting, and the front comes off to make it a toddler bed. I think it's the best crib ever (but I'm cheap and biased). ;)

It's not one that becomes a twin bed, though. I figured we could just re-use the crib (we knew we were having more than one) and buy a twin bed for the older child. We had Marnie in a twin by 20mo so we could put Amanda in the crib. :)

IKEA is amazing. If you're in the US, it might actually be cheaper than $89. Things tend to be more expensive north of the border. :)

This is the one we have (it really is very plain), but ours is lime green. ;)

It came in wood, pink, blue, and green. We got green so we could use it for either sex. :)

  • If you can make it work with the space you have, I would recommend a regular sized convertible crib

When I was pregnant last time, this was one of the higher rated cribs. It's a great buy!

  • DD slept in her Pack 'N Play for the first month because it was higher and I slept on the couch with her. I moved her into her crib at about a month in her own room.

It converts into a toddler bed. DD is now 2.5 and she doesn't bounce in her bed or try to get out. She just calls out and DH or I go and get her. When we move in the next month or so she will get to sleep in her toddler bed and we'll save the crib for Baby #2.
