Bad Vitamin D - BAD!!

At my 6 week PP checkup, our doctor suggested that I start taking 1000mg Vit. D supplements in addition to my regular multi-vites. That was also the same time my DH and I started having sex again, so I didn't think much of my UTI symptoms that suddenly started, as I tend to get them from sex/fatigue/stress. I kept getting checked for UTIs and it was negative. The odor of my urine was awful and no matter how much water I drank would flush the stink out. I went to the doctor to complain about this issue in addition to chronic heartburn and nausea on Monday. It turns out, I have too much Vit. D and calcium in my system. She [the doctor] never checked my blood levels before prescribing the supplements. I was on the fast track toward kidney stones because of the calcium buildup. I stopped the additional supplements 2 days ago and I'm already 100% back to normal. If you have any of the symptoms I described, please check with your doctor about too much Vit. D!!

    Wow, that's crazy! Good thing you went to your dr before it turned into something more serious.. I'm happy you're back to your normal self =)

    @MrsStanton87 - definitely worth discussing with your doctor. UTIs are symptoms of too much calcium and Vit. D. When I was 7 months old I had renal failure as a result of sepsis, and I've been getting UTIs since I was little - now this sheds a whole new light on it. I was always told that I probably didn't wipe correctly; used wrong soaps; was dehydrated... I was likely born with a sensitivity, or something. When I was breastfeeding my older kid, nobody told me to take Vit. D, otherwise I might've discovered this sooner.

    Wow! Esp in our area of the country, naturally high levels of Vit D are rare. What was your D level?

    @MamaFantastic - I don't know what the level was. I was only told TOO MUCH. I never knew this could be a thing around here. Since Monday, I've learned from my mother that she has hyperparathyroidism, so she is discouraged from taking vitamin D supplements. I'm wondering if this is the case for me, too. My mom's was only discovered at a recent doctor's appointment, and she is scheduled to have a (non-cancerous) tumor removed. ETA: My calcium is high.
