Blood in poop.. is this bad?

This is the 2nd diaper where there has been a tiny bit of blood?  Is this something that I should worry about?

  • I would call your pedi. I think that's a sign of a food allergy.

  • Definitely call your pedi. My DD only had a few little specks if blood and pedi put me on MSPI diet. That could be an anal fissure or an allergy. GL and keep us posted!
  • Thanks! It was gone this morning. Doc said it was probably from straining. thanks!!
  • Is your baby breastfed? If so, although your LO may be straining to pass gas, the poop shouldn't ever be solid enough for the straining to cause bleeding. This is exactly what my DDs diapers looked like when we found out she was allergic to dairy. I would consider asking your pedi some more questions

That looks like breastmilk poop. It's soft and usually BF babies pass stool without much effort at all.

  • Yeah sometimes it's normal once and a while.....as your doctor said from straining. Especially at times from baby girls. They still have left over hormones from you in their bodies that will cause a little bit of blood to show up in the diaper....read this in three different places. Most of the time I think it's from natural causes but if it happens somewhat regularly....definitely needs to be checked out. My DD had it once when she was around 3 weeks old I believe. :-)
