Traveling with Baby

We are traveling down to FL (from MI) to see family over Thanksgiving. Our LO will be somewhere around 2 months old. We will be staying in hotels throughout our travels, and I am at a loss at what I should get/take for her to sleep in. I was thinking a pack n' play but I really can't imagine flying one of those down there with everything else we have to take. Co-Sleeping is out of the picture, so now I am stuck in limbo land.

Anyone have any easy to pack up and take with you travel sleep systems that I could check out?

I traveled with the PNP when DS was that little, it takes up a lot of room but I was definitely happy I had it when the time came around for him to sleep.

I traveled with a pnp too. I recently got a By Your Side Sleeper, it's like a portable bassinet. You can get it a Burlington, babies r us, target, and probably online.

If you are staying at hotels check with them to see if they provide a crib. We are traveling the end of October and we will be asking for 2.

Have you looked at a travel bassinet? We traveled when our LO was that same age but we drove from WI to TN. We ended up using his bouncy seat for him to sleep in. When my sister traveled with her kids once we had a PNP here for her to use so on the nights they stayed in hotels on the way, they let their twins sleep in their car seats. It's not the best solution but it's a thought.

I would also call the hotels you are staying in, the ones we have stayed in have provided cribs (really pack n plays) free of charge and we just bring our own sheets. If this is not available I will also recommend the RNP.

We're going to Disneyland around the same time. I've never been to a hotel that didn't provide a crib, so our plan is to just request one from the hotel. If we decide to stay in a condo, we'll either bring our PnP from home or buy a really cheap one when we get there.

We always travel with a pack n play. It is annoying, but you can check it for free 5 min after getting to the airport and don't see it again until baggage claim. Not a huge deal. And, I'm so glad we had it. During one of our trips, the hotel had already setup a pack n play in our room, and it was ripped throughout the sides and the white mesh was no longer white. It was gross.

There are a lot of fold-up travel beds for babies out there. I remember seeing one that folds up into a backpack, but can't remember where or who makes it. Somewhere on Amazon maybe?

We were displaced right after DS was born bc of hurricane Sandy (No heat/electric/hot water ). By default DS slept in his bouncy seat or Rnp. Pnp was set up in my MIL room at home already for naps and changing and DH didn't want to take it down. He did great for the two weeks we were house hopping from place to place.

Then when DS was 6 months he went to Florida with me. We took pack n Play for that trip.

I second what others said about checking with the hotels. On a side note: we are actually doing the same thing as you, but traveling from FL to MI around that same time.

Just remember if you plan on using a crib provided by the hotel, they could easily run out. I would see if you are able to reserve one just in case.

I agree with the PP about putting baby on the floor at that age, as we've done that once, in a pinch. At 2 months they can't roll over yet and pretty much stay in one spot all night. But definitely first check with your hotel first and request a crib or pack n play in the room. Most hotels will be able to accommodate that. Also, there are smaller, more travel-friendly versions of pack n plays that shouldn't be too difficult to bring along with you too. You have options.

I also brought a pack and play when I traveled with DS at 6 weeks old. But we only traveled 4 hours to visit family, so no hotels. That age is relatively easy to travel with because they sleep most of the car ride away.

If you are carrying a carseat why not let her sleep in that? Rather than carrying two items. If not I agree the PNP from the hotel, but I would bring my own sheets.

i think you have a lot of options, actually.

as PPs mentioned, you can generally get a PNP at most hotels. you can also check them for free, but if you are concerned about yet another item to lug around the airport, i get that.

you could check out the phil&ted's "nest" - it's won a lot of awards and is exactly the type of product you need.

i also think a rock n play or even your infant car seat could work. good luck (and you too, conrad)

We are driving to Wisconsin when little man will be 6-8 weeks old, and we are planning on bringing a pack n play for use in the hotel. If we get a R&P, and we think it will be useful we will bring it too (or instead).

Most hotels will provide a crib if you ask. Call ahead and see if the ones your staying at do.

Like others have said, most hotels should have a PNP you can reserve for your room. IMO I would just bed-share for the trip.

My husband is a horrible tosser and turner at night. He's nailed me in the head with his elbows and rolled over onto me many a-nights. He really has no clue that he's doing it and I really don't feel safe co-sleeping with our LO between us due to the that.
