fascinating article about placenta.

I had zero idea about most of this.

Also, had no clue you could donate your placenta--has anyone? Are you planning to? Would you if you were asked?

  • I plan on encapsulating mine. I have dealt with depression in the past, so I am hoping it will help keep PPD in check.

If I wasn't going to use mine I would donate it if that service was available in my area.

I'll take one of these donated placentas! Mine seems to be on the fritz these days... I could use a new one.
  • I read this article last night. Super interesting. I was thinking of delivering at UCSF so if they asked me, I would donate it to science.

  • On those same lines....I have thought about encapsulating mine. Now of course I am googling people in my area that will encapsulate...

I had a bit of PPD with DS and I think this could help me. For example I cried one of the first nights home while eating dinner with my DH, mom and dad because I was going to be alone with the baby for a few hours the next morning. I was seriously worried that I would ruin his penis. (He was circumcised)  They all laughed at me until the realized it was a serious worry of mine.

Long story short if consuming a little dried out placenta in a plastic capsule will keep me from histerically cring about wuining my child's private parts I'm all for it.
