Infant or kids medicine?

DD has a fever and is pretty fussy. We gave her the infant acetaminophen we have, but the dosing for up to 2 years old also has "23lbs" as the top weight listed. Do you use kids medicine after they pass 23lbs or wait til they're two? Just curious what everyone else has been doing if you've used these kinds of meds lately?

  • @kjsmith9 I emailed you a .pdf copy of the chart our health care provider gave us. I think we're still using the infant med until they're 2 (& if that is what you have in the house, may as well stick with what you've got).

I honestly never thought of this, I just went by the age, meaning he's under 2 so I still give him the infants motrin or tylenol. LO is 32 lbs now so he's been over 23 lbs for awhile now so I would just give him the dose for 23 lbs.
  • You are supposed to go by weight rather than age, I believe. Our doctor is very good about telling correct dosages - you should give yours a call.

  • My doctor just told me yesterday to go by weight and to start buying childrens tylenol and advil because the dosages are different. You can check out my doctors website to get a correct dosage: https://www.brentwoodchildrens.com/ There is a pull down menu for each medicine.

  • I just bought Children's Tylenol instead of Infant because it was cheaper and the dosage per ml were the same. Ask your Pediatrician what dose you should give, then you can figure out how much of whatever you have. The difference between the Tylenol (from what I can tell) is that the infant came with a syringe comparable top, and the children's came with a pour-into-a-cup top.
