Newborn clothes??

Ok ftm here-- I'm almost 17 weeks and want to start buying some baby clothes just to prep(also I've found the cutest stuff I can't help but buy). I had my a/s and they told me baby was a little larger than average, 8oz and 8inches at 16 weeks 5 days-- would it be risky to start getting clothes now? I'm thinking maybe size 0-3 months? Help!!!!

Don't know what your family or social circle is like...but I seem to be getting gifted LOTS of NB clothes already. Mine is measuring just a few days ahead, but if he's like his dad he won't be in NB clothes long. So I'm just recommending waiting - you may be gifted all that you need.

I know ughhhh I'm struggling bc there is so much I want to buy!!! It would probably be 10000 times worse if he was a she-- I'm just wondering if he will be too big for newborn clothes when he comes out?

Based on his size now- not really sure how much that'll change or if he'll be bigger throughout the whole pregnancy/birth

I specified to everyone not to get clothes since I'm very particular and picky regarding baby clothes, I want to get a few things since were moving into a cold snowy region and I'm due on Christmas, don't really want to be out shopping around holiday time with all the crowds and in the cold..

Same as what others said. My DS was 6lb 8oz and he would have been in NB clothes for awhile if they were around when he was little! However, we just used 0-3 months clothes. What I got the most use out of were the gowns. At night it was nice to not have to mess with buttons and cramming little legs back into pant legs. The size on the gowns is pretty standard, too.

They told me my daughter would be over 8lbs, but she ended up at 7 1/2. We used newborn for 2 months. I would say that or maybe 0-3 month gerber onesies since they run about a size smaller than everything else.

Honestly, if you want to buy clothes, buy the outfit in larger sizes. People love buying baby clothes and all of the clothes I got at my shower were 3 and 6 month. I did get a few newborn outfits but dd only wore them for maybe a week (and never fit newborn hats). After 6 months, DD's wardrobe dropped dramatically.

I suggest buying some basics and a few cute things, then going from there. It's hard because you won't be up for shopping after little one gets here. Everyone told me to only get a few things in newborn, and everyone gifted me 3, and 3-6 months. E was in his newborn clothes for 3 months. Needless to say I was out shopping not too long after he was born even though I was sore.

I'm just wondering if 8ounces and 8incbes at 16 weeks 5 days is significantly larger than average-- I heard 5 ounces was average-- I'm thinking to get 0-3 and 3-6 just in case

I've only bought 0-3 sizes. I was nearly 10 pounds and DH was 3 weeks early and still 7 1/2 pounds. If anything is a little big, we'll just cuff the pants and sleeves.

Say if you like it buy it but In a bigger size as pp said. My son never wore newborn (10lbs at birth, 15oz at my 21 week anatomy scan) and 0-3 didn't last that long. At 17 months he wears 2t though he's not overweight, just a big solid kid.

My daughter was born on the larger side 8 lbs 9 oz and she wore NB clothes for about a month the. Moved on to 0-3. So unless he comes out 10lbs + he will fit in NB stuff. I would just get a few NB onesies. They live in sleepers and onesies the first several weeks anyway.

I wouldn't recommend buying a ton of clothes, but 5-8 onesie/t-shirt tops and 5-8 pairs of pants in size 0-3 would be a good start.

My younger son was almost nine pounds and pretty much only wore a newborn size on the ride home from the hospital. The 0-3's can be a little roomy to start but they tend to fit longer.

If you have the urge to buy ALL the stuff, get burp clothes and swaddle blankets instead. They will last you a long time.

I had about 3 NB sleepers and I used 0-3 months gowns. For me, the gowns were a lot easier than onesies until the umbilical cord falls off. DD was too long for NB size after a week, and DS's feet were too big for the sleepers.

If you want to buy stuff, I recommend buying larger sizes, especially once summer clothes go on clearance.

I would buy whatever you want/think you'll need and just leave the tags on or keep the receipt, as a pp said. If you end up not using it, just return it.

DD1 never wore neborn clothes OR diapers, she was 8-14. DD2 was a tiny bit smaller at 8-11 but an inch longer than her sister and she wore newborn clothes/diapers for 2-3 weeks (and 0-3 at the same time). This one is a boy and already measuring a week ahead (10oz at 18w1d), I don't expect him to be any smaller than 9 pounds. I'm not buying ANY newborn this time!!

If it's your first, it never hurts to have a couple newborn outfits, but I wouldn't go crazy.

Yeah, I wouldn't worry about getting clothes - unless you see something you HAVETOHAVE. You'll get a ton of NB size stuff at the shower.. and 0-3. So much that you'll likely have to return some. People cannot help themselves with cute bebe clothes.

This is what I'm going to do. I know I have some plain white long sleeve onesies from when DS was a baby so I'm going to use those and pick up some little soft cotton pants in NB and then a few sleepers/gowns (I like them better for when the umbilical cord is still healing). Then everything else will probably be 0-3 months and I can roll it up. I will prob. just wash a few things I buy in case I need to return anything.

I was told dd would be close to 9 pounds. She was 6 pounds 6ounces! She was a peanut! Buy some newborn stuff but keep tags on! It's fun to buy! U could also hit up yards ales and consignments and really not feel guilty if the stuff is too small!

I bought some NB sleepers (7lbs) when I was pg with DD because I was sure she'd be small like I was (I had my money on 6lbs). She was born at just over 8lbs and spent about a week in the NB size. 0-3 months or 10lbs lasted us a couple months.

I definitely wouldn't buy a ton of newborn clothes. DD wore them for maybe 8 weeks give or take and she was 7 pounds 8 ounces at birth.

Also, keep in mind those ultrasound estimates can be totally off, not to mention, you still have such a long ways to go. With DD, she'd measure right on track, then big, then on track again. At the end they were expecting a huge baby, only to have delivered a very average 7.5 pounder.
