Anatomy scan!! help!

I go in tomorrow morning and I was not instructed to drink the 32 oz's, actually I haven't been instructed to do anything. I've been reading everywhere-- we're supposed to find out the sex tomorrow but I don't know if I should drink a lot beforehand just in case or just leave it alone-- help please!!!

(17 week u/s)

I was told NOT to drink water, It might be the same for you. Call them first thing in the morning to make sure I guess.

  • Bring a water bottle. I drink it on my way in and then confirm with the front desk. If they need an empty bladder that is easy to fix. If they need a full bladder then I have made progress toward it but I wad not sitting in traffic trying to get to the appointment with an uncomfortably full bladder.

  • I was only told I needed a full bladder for the NT at 13 weeks to encourage the baby to lay flat. I had my A/S on an empty bladder because the first thing they have me do at regular appts is a urine sample. Call to check just in case.

  • I had to empty my bladder when I got there.
  • I was told to drink that much water for my a/s tomorrow. I would call to see what they want you to do.

  • I was told to drink water. Maybe it just depends how far along you are?
  • I had an empty bladder and the tech was able to get all the readings she needed.

  • You could call and ask or go in with a full bladder. It's easy enough to empty it if needed.

17 weeks seems early for the a/s

  • Thanks everyone! Well my husband got orders to a different base so my ob wanted me to do it before we left!

I only read about it having to be full the night before so I had no one to call and I was the first appointment in the am! They told me it was meant to be empty so I emptied when I got there!

Everything went well! The baby is healthy
  • And it's a boy!

    Congrats!!
  • I just can't use the bathroom an hour before the scan. They want a fuller bladder, but they don't need me to drink a lot of water. If you weren't instructed to do anything I wouldn't worry about it.
