Boss leaving gift

How much would you contribute to a group gift to a boss who is leaving assuming you would consider contributing (I realize not everyone would)? Not an especially close relationship, under 2 yrs time in role but a positive/cordial relationship. Thanks.

Re: Boss leaving gift

  • I never know how much to give. $10, assuming it will add up to a decent amount?

  • I'd ask how much everyone else is contributing and let that inform my decision a little. I think 10 bucks sounds decent, though.

  • i was going to say $20-but yes would ask what everyone else is doing/how many other people are involved.
  • I hate gifting up. Has the boat already sailed on a gift? Any chance people could be talked into a lunch instead? I would ask the organizer how much most people were giving and match it.
  • Thanks all. The gift giving is very open and really I suspect people will opt out but it was put out via email and I personally did really did not feel pressured. There is never a collection for her for the holidays or anything like that and I'd like to contribute to a gift for her b/c she has done a lot of great things for my place of work and the gift is something sentimental & related to the workplace. I was thinking $25 so these are helpful answers. I would say I am in the upper half  in terms of rank/classification of those asked (it was a BCC so I don't really know but I assume it was her direct reports and others she worked closely with).
