Stay at Home Moms

Adjusting Intro

I am a teacher and have a 15 month old ds.  I am scheduled for my c section on Sept 4 for ds #2.  I am going on child care leave for the next year (potentially 2).  Last year was my first summer not working (also my first summer with a child) but we sold a house and bought a house so most of my time was devoted to packing unpacking etc.  I guess bc this is the longest I've been home with nothing pressing to do, but I'm starting to get so nervous about being a SAHM.  Don't get me wrong I'm thrilled to be home with the boys it's exactly what I wanted, but I'm getting a little nervous.  The last few days I've been so tired I guess it could be the pregnancy just knocking me out, but Ive always been the type of person who go go goes and I'm kinda afraid to stop bc then I feel like I'll loose my motivation.  (ex laundry sitting in the dryer that I should have folded tonight)  Anyone else have or had similar feelings?  TIA

  • Pregnancy is the most tired I have ever been. Even with a newborn I was better rested and less uncomfortable. You won't be doing jumping jacks right away but you'll probably have more energy. Give yourself a break now and when the baby comes. If you all have clean underwear, laundry is not urgent.

  • I think thats another huge part of it.  Dh works nights so I'm alone.  And I feel liek once LO goes to bed I'm just done for the night.  And yes I know you are right, laundry can sit in the dryer, I just feel a bit useless lately.  But you ladies are right.  I guess this is the calm before the storm and I should enjoy the down time.

  • Welcome! I am also a teacher. I took almost 9 months off with my DS, then went back to school full time this year, and then next year I will only work 2 1/2 days. What grade did you teach?

Once you get into the swing of things you will have a pretty productive day. Make sure that you plan outings almost daily and try to get involved in something for you. For example I enjoy working out so thats part of our morning routine. DS goes to the childcare for an hour and I work out alone. You can also join mommy groups, etc.

I think a big part is that you are nearing the end of your pregnancy and are exhausted, especially with a toddler. Once the baby comes you will slowly figure out your new normal and probably really enjoy your time home. I only have one DS right now but I am assuming your days will be jam packed that you'll be begging for some alone time.

  • Being pregnant and staying home with a toddler is honestly the most exhausting experience I've ever had. I'm currently almost 2 weeks out from my RCS and life is mostly back to how it was before I was super pregnant. We are going places or doing activities every day. Even on crappy nb sleep schedule I have so much more energy and patients for my 22 month old.

I guess my point is: do what you can, give yourself a break, and you will likely be back to your normal soon!
