Short version- Cole Thomas was born after a RCS on 7/9/14, he was 8lbs 10oz and 20.5" long. He has been a pretty easy baby so far and I am healing great. We are thrilled to have him join our family (well DD is most of the time

)
Long version- To really appreciate the long version I have to give a brief description of my birth experience with DD. I had an emergency c-section after 24 hours of labor (3 pushing), the whole surgery was pretty traumatic. I felt more than I should have, I had a claustrophobia panic attack when they hung the drape up, I barely saw DD before they whisked her away and everything is very groggy for me in recovery and for a couple days after. Then my incision ended up infected and was allowed to close up naturally, so for months I had a large open wound on my abdomen. When my healing wasn't progressing fast enough my Dr. had me go for bacterial testing where it was discovered that I had cellulitis and I had to go to a wound center for treatment. I wasn't completely healed from my section until DD was 4 months old. During that time period we were also really struggling with breast feeding and I had mastitis 2 times.
Now on to little man's story.
Based on my previous experience and the reasons that ultimately led to the c-section I opted for a RCS. If I was going to have major surgery again I wanted to go into it relatively calm and rested.
We checked into the hospital at 5:30am on July 9th. I was given andIV and blood was taken. DH and I just hung out mostly and texted some family with an update before we went to surgery. At 7:30am I walked myself into the OR and DH waited outside until he could come in. It was a little weird to just be standing around while all the nurses ran around the room prepping. Then I got on to the operating table and was given my spinal, I had a little nerve pain when it was going in and this was the only part I really wished DH was already in for. Luckily the spinal took effect almost right away. Then they laid me down on the table and started prepping. This time they used a white drape and moved it a little farther away from my head and made sure it didn't drape over my face at all, so no claustrophobia kicked in. Then DH was let in the room. They started the surgery at 7:45am and Cole arrived crying very loudly at 8:01am. I was able to see him in the warmer while they checked him out and then they put him on me with DH helping to hold him there for about 15mins before they took him to the nursery. Surgery was finished at about 8:40am. They took out all of the scar tissue from the healing process with the last section and now my scar should heal much nicer and less pronounced than before. Yay!DH and LO joined me in recovery about 20 mins. later and he latched perfectly right away! Such a change from his sister.
So far my recovery has been so much easier and I am feeling pretty good, so much so that I have to remind myself to not over due it. He is nursing like a champ and my milk came in on day 3 which was such a relief. I am tired of course but I think after having a crappy sleeper for the past 3 years in DD I am much more used to sleep deprivation

DD is having a hard time adjusting though, she is a major mommy's girl so it's not shocking. We have had some pretty exciting tantrums the last couple of days but they are getting better each day and I know she will adjust soon. We are just trying to give her lots of attention and love.
