23 weeks, still no movement

I'm at 23 weeks, finally showing a lil bump, everyone keeps asking me if I can feel my baby, but I still can't.  I saw my Dr. at 22 weeks and they asked if I felt any movement, I hadn't, but they said I should soon.  We did hear the heart beat, so I know my baby is healthy in there, but is this normal?  If so, when do strong baby kicks (not just flutters) begin?

  • If your doctor wasn't concerned you shouldn't be. And every pregnancy is different.

  • Do you have an anterior placenta? If so, that can make it take longer to feel kicks. My friend didn't feel anything until 25 or 26 weeks with her daughter because of the position of the placenta.

  • depending on where your placenta is it can change how soon you feel it. Also everyone is different  and it can depend on what pregnancy it is too. I felt my first moving at 18 weeks, second at 16 weeks and this one at 12. I still dont feel the STRONG kicks though
  • Babies are little people.  Sometimes they move around a lot, and sometimes they're lazy.  ;)

I had a pretty lazy one first time around; she barely moved.  I don't think I really felt anything until 23 or 24 weeks.  Second baby moved ALL the time.

Like other people said, maybe you just can't feel it yet... or maybe baby just isn't a kick-y baby.  :)

  • Hi. I had an anterior placenta. Everyone thought I was lying when I said I couldn't feel DS move. My answer was if I was going to lie about something, I'd pick something much more exciting.

Around 23-24 I was just starting to feel not really movement but pressure. I could feel when he would push against something inside me, but only that pressure against my side or whatever, not him moving there. It took maybe a month more after that to feel him actually move and even then it wasn't that much until closer to the end.

It doesn't mean this is what it is for you, but that was my experience. My mom was the worst one for asking and being shocked that I didn't feel anything. After my second u/s was when I was told about the placenta. Then whenever someone would ask if I could feel him, she would always tell them that my placenta was in the way and it made it much more difficult to feel him and I had to wait longer. It was cute.
  • I also had an anterior placenta and didn't really feel any movement until closer to 28 weeks. Don't worry that lo will be keeping you awake with all his movement soon enough! Good luck!
  • I am going on 23 weeks this week, and I am JUST now starting to feel movement consistently.  I was getting frustrated before because my pregnant friends that are due the same time as me had been feeling movement for weeks, and I wondered if there was something wrong with the baby, despite hearing a healthy heart beat.  My sister and law (who is a labor and delivery nurse) assured me that she didn't feel movement with my niece until she was almost 24 weeks.  There is also a good chance that you just haven't felt it yet, it was very hard for me to pinpoint it till very recently!  It will come! :)
  • What everyone has said and also, how much body fat you have will determine when and how you feel your baby. With my first, I felt flutters at 14 weeks even with an anterior placenta. With my second I felt the flutters at 10 weeks (posterior placenta).
