What baby carrier?!?

So we opted not to get a double stroller since DS is so tall and really won't fit in any double strollers very well. But I have now discovered going out with an unconstrained toddler and newborn is insane.

Therefore my thoughts are to invest in a carrier for DD so I can put DS in an umbrella stroller. I currently have a Chicco carrier that I despise and doesn't really work well for a newborn.

So my question is... What carriers do you love that are comfortable, easy to use and will grow with the child. In other words....how can I get the most bang for my buck?

I don't know about bang for your buck. But the ergo is super popular and you can usually find them on sale.

I really want a Beco Gemini but still haven't seen it in person so I need to check it out. But it's my carrier lust.

I would suggest trying a few out. Do u have a carrier group or boutique nearby?

Also try the attachment parenting board and nurseries and baby gear board too.

I have a Manduca (very similar to an Ergo) but it comes with the newborn insert. And my sister who has used like everything bought it for me and she said it was by far the most comfortable.

I had the Moby for the newborn stage and loved it, but it doesn't last for very long. I also have the Ergo, which I highly recommend. If I didn't already have the Moby, I would buy the Ergo infant insert and use that exclusively.

I love my Boba carrier and the new 4G version has an infant insert.

Have you looked at sit and stand strollers? We have the Joovy caboose which is great for my 3 year old who is also pretty tall and doesn't always want to sit. She does walk most of the time, but it's great at the zoo or in big mall parking lots when I want her close.

With the twins, I'll often put one in the umbrella/shopping cart and the other I a carrier. I did have a NB insert with my Ergo, but didn't care for it. I just used a Moby, but I think I would have liked to have used a K'tan for ease in public. Now, I use the Ergo all the time. DH has one too for those occasions when it is easier to Ergo them both. LOVE it.

Like @CarrieB. we love our Boba - we have the Boba Air - it's great for summer. I use the Moby until 6-8 weeks and then transitions to the Boba. We originally had the Baby Bjorn but I hated it.

The ktan is awesome for newborn stage. But I've heard a lot of people say they don't care for it after 15 lbs. this is not helpful I realize.

I love, love, love my Ergo. It was by far the most comfortable for me, easy to use and I can still carry G on my back in it at age 2. I used the infant insert when he was a newborn. He loves it too. Good luck finding one you love!

Another vote for K'tan! Be sure you buy the correct size and if in doubt, buy the smaller size!

I have a bjorn still since I was too cheap to go out and buy a new one. I always wonder if the wraps will get too hot in this summer weather?

I have a wrap and a Ergo. LO sweats so much in the wrap this time of year. I recommend the Ergo as good now for infant and will be great for toddler years too.

For those that have the ergo - have you found it uncomfortable? My back and hips always hurt after about 10-15 minutes with LO.

@kmc84‌ @mcgeeva‌ I have the ktan breeze. It's SO much cooler than a moby. But I think it only comes in black, so it's still warm. If it comes in another color, get that.

Then from personal experience you are wearing it wrong. I had to play with the fit for a while but you should definitely not be feeling pain

Thanks ladies! I don't think I want the wrap type and everyone seems to have great things to say about the Ergo. I think I'm leaning towards that. @mdiblasi10‌ I've heard the newborn insert might not be necessary do you think it is?

Thanks Roxie. I'll have to try again. I see so many ladies using them - and I cringe thinking about putting it on again besides what I mentioned above it digs into my shoulders too. Maybe I'll look for videos online and give that a try. Thanks again.

@Cwhitaker I used the newborn insert and I needed it when he was a newborn. It kept him up higher and more secure when he was little. I hope you love it as much as I have! I just saw they came out with the Ergo 360 and baby can front face. I tried the Bjorn for front-facing and hated it and was always saying "Ergo needs to come out with a front facing carrier!" and they did

I have an ergo and didnt like the insert. I used rolled up blankies instead. You will need something. Theres a you tube video on the ergo without the insert. Also have the joovy ultralight but im using the carrier more.

@KaraBear4409‌ do you know if the I infant insert is universal? Or is there a special one for the 360? I'm gonna buy the 360 but have to order it on amazon. I can't find it in stores anywhere

Loved, LOVED the Beco Gemini! We have a bunch of carriers (beco gemini, ergo, moby wrap, ring sling, infantino and baby bjorn) and when my daughter was an infant, we could only use the beco gemini or the moby wrap. The moby wrap is nice. But, it isn't simple and it is very hot! The beco was super easy! We used it until she was 1. At that point, she preferred to walk or she rides in her stroller or a shopping cart (being an only child has its advantages).

We were able to use the Ergo when she was bigger. She went ballistic when we tried to put her in it with an infant insert (or a rolled up blanket or towel). I couldn't use it at all until she was big enough not to need an insert and at that point we had the Beco which we were super comfortable with. Technically, she is still within the size range for the Beco at 24+ months old. The Beco allows for front carry forward or rear facing, side carry and back carry.

We used the Boba 3G from when N was a newborn through now. I really love it and got it specifically because it has an integrated infant insert so it can be worn from birth without any additional components. N is now 13 months and I am still wearing her a ton so I very recently ordered a Kinderpack, which is supposed to be amazing for longer term babywearing. I haven't gotten it yet, so no firsthand feedback on that one.
