NBR: Am I selfish?

So DH's cousin called me today and asked if I knew anyone that needed a washer/dryer. I told her that my mom and step father were looking, and that I would give them a call and ask. So, I call and my mom asks what model, how old, etc.

Turns out it is a Maytag Atlantis set and is practically brand new. I didn't know this at the time, or I would have considered taking the set. We have a decent set, but we went with a basic model at the time because of finances. It is actually newer than the Atlantis set. It works and gets the job done. I called my mom, and told her about the set, and she said she would take it. I told her that I didn't know that it was so new (and expensive), and that we would like to have it. I offered to give her our set but she declined.

I am a little sad. I know that we aren't out anything, and we have a perfectly fine set. I just would have loved all the options on this other set. We cloth diaper and it had the extra rinse, etc. 

I'm selfish, huh?

    I actually think your mom should have agreed to your idea. My mom would have. But I've had an extra bit o' wine so should maybe be ignored.

    No. Selfish would be if you never told your mom about it in the first place and just kept it for yourself.

    You're not selfish.  You probably do WAY more laundry than your mom and could use it more, but I agree with amajane, selfish would have been just keeping it for yourself anyway.

     I agree! You need it more. Maybe you can offer your set to her again after she's had some time to think about it.
