Help me plan my kid's party?

I want to have a superman or superhero themed party for Greylan. He likes superman a lot, and batman is a close second, with some like for the hulk, iron man, and spiderman.

I am due with Olivia on Aug 23rd and his Birthday is Sept. 11th, so I don't want to plan something too elaborate, or try to craft too many things. There will prob. be about 5  to 10 kiddos there with 8 to 15 adults as well. We will be having it at my home, which is pretty small, mostly because Olivia will only be a few weeks old and it will be easier for me to just be home with her.

Thoughts?

I have searched pinterest and found lots of cute ideas, I just can't seem to decide on anything or put the whole party together in my head, you know?

FTR, I will have family around to help with whatever before after and during the party.

  • Yes!  @jenndub had one for Bennett.  It was adorable.  And didn't look too complicated.  She posted pictures, but maybe she'd be able to point you in the direction she went.

Honestly, I'd go to the party store, pick up some themed stuff and call it a day.  I don't know what kind of stuff you're interested in crafting, but I know jen had an absolutely adorable outfit for B...maybe that would be a fun project for the party.

  • I would have the kids decorate their own superhero capes. It would be a fun activity during the party and an easy favor. You could have them use fabric markers or have felt cutouts for them to attach.

This is a great idea! What should the basic cape be made from do you think?

T-shirts. Google T-shirt cape and it says how to do them.

  • I used to make them for my preschool classes to decorate and just used an inexpensive cotton or cotton blend in a solid color. I hem all sides adding in a ribbon (or arm slits depending on he age of the kids and how likely I thought it would be for them to choke each other by yanking on the capes) each one only took about 5-10 minutes go make and cost $2-3 before the markers or felt.

I love the cape idea. It's pretty easy to theme stuff, you can just order some cupcakes with blue, red and yellow frosting (superman). Etsy has heaps of stuff you can buy, or you could print off pictures of superheroes, cut them into triangles and make bunting. Add some streamers in the same colours, decorations done. Cheap and easy, and you could make the bunting now and just stash it away. I'm starting to make bits and buy little bits and pieces for Andy's birthday. I did the same thing last year (I was first tri and sick as a dog on his party day), and it helped so much.
Awesome awesome awesome. You guys are seriously awesome. :)

TY! I found a tutorial online that cuts the neck and uses velcro. I don't sew, and have some fabric stick on velcro, so it's perfect! I think I might just go get shirts at my local thrift store to use, and wash them...is that tacky? Should i buy new shirts just to cut them up for a kids craft?
