Gender reveal ideas

So with my daughter this was my announcement/gender reveal. I wanted to do something as I find out Monday, but my creative juices are not flowing. I've checked Pinterest but it all looks so cheesy. I know it's easy to just say hey it's a x! but as our families live in the States I would like to surprise them somehow. I'm a baker, but that's not an option with the distance. This is the announcement they received in the mail for our pregnancy announcement. Are you doing anything special to reveal your baby's gender?

    Gender?

Nope.  We just sent out a text or made a phone call announcing the sex of our baby boy.  Extended friends and family got a facebook message saying, "It's a boy"

  • When we find out the sex of the baby we will probably just end up telling everyone. The idea of doing a reveal is great and I would definitely love to do one! The reality is I don't have the time to be creative and I know that everyone we would be telling, although happy to hear the sex, are mostly concern with the idea that we are having a healthy baby regardless of the sex! At the most, since we will be finding out during a time frame that includes a lot of family birthdays we will include the baby's name on the card to give away the sex!
  • I bought a little boy onsie that said "Handsome Fella" and texted it to family/friends.  Simple, but they got the point! :)

We're having a very small reveal party. This is the first baby on both sides of the family in 20 years so we're going all out haha
My anatomy scan is tomorrow and I'm taking and envelope with a piece of paper for the tech to write the sex down. I also have a friend going with me to take the envelope so I don't peek and to deliver it to a cake maker for me.
Next week when my honey gets home (he works on an oil rig out of town) we'll have our party and cut into our either pink or blue cake and find out that way!
Its only our parents and grandparents and the sole purpose for them coming over is to eat cake and share our moment with us. No gifts no cards just cake and family (:

  • We're going to have the tech write it down and seal it, then my mom will bake a cake. We're just going to host a BBQ at the lake and enjoy a quiet evening with my parents, his mom and brothers family, and our best friends.

  • We are folding it into our baby shower and my sister is going all out. She is creating a baby themed scavenger hunt and one team will find a locked box and one team will find a key and when they get together and open the box it will have a onesie with the baby name in it. This means we have to wait til October to announce even though we find out in August, but so worth it. The baby shower photos on Facebook will announce to anyone not in attendance. :)
  • I was in charge of the sex reveal when my sister was pregnant, which we did on vacation. We needed something that would transport easily, so these we're a few of the ideas I considered. Might work for mailing as well (this was my brainstorm list - so some might be a little far fetched in reality.)

A can of silly string in pink or blue (if the label doesn't say).
A little box filled with confetti or glitter they could hang from a tree & pull open (the confetti sprinkles out - it's fun & dramatic, though messy. This is the one we did & it was great).
Or a pretty box to open with a pink or blue pair of shoes/onesie/something adorable.
You could send an opaque ballon that you pre- fill with coloured confetti, that they blow up & then pop to find out.
Custom-baked fortune cookies with a message inside.
  • We are going to do either the confetti box hanging from the tree or the balloons.  We aren't doing a party or anything fancy it is basically something fun for the kids to involve them.  I will probably invite my parents and siblings over to watch and take some photos.  If we get any good photos will we use that as our facebook announcement.  This is our last baby and we currently have 3 boys so we are very excited to find out.  DH and I were going to find out at the same time as everyone else but we decided to find out at the anatomy scan and than just surprise the kids.

  • Shared this yesterday, but it fits with this post. This was something I found from pinterest that I thought was cute and was a fun way to involve DS. He had a blast! We just took the pics and posted this to Facebook. We had Skyped with our immediate members the night we found out and just had DS tell them his baby sister's name so the post/pics were just a gun way to tell everyone else.
  • I did a box of pink balloons with a small gathering of immediate family. Balloons are really common right now so I almost did something different, but the moment was so special I'm so glad I did it that way. I then had someone take a picture and text that to out of state family.

I am planning the gender reveal party at my kid's third birthday. I am going to have him/her yell out his/her gender. It is going to be awesome!

    @BankerBSN‌ - you sure that isn't too soon? ;)

@CandEChicago‌ now you haver worried. I do not want my kid to feel gender pressure!

  • I posted this on Facebook yesterday. Super simple but I like it :-) my stepmom loves photography and does it as a hobby and offered to take all my maternity photos so it was simple to just go to their house and post it the same day I found out. I guess I'm lucky in that regard lol

We are not doing a party like we did with DD. We did a quarterback or cheerleader themed party for immediate family and a few friends. It was during football season during a highly anticipated USC vs Ducks game, so it was fun.

We already told immediate family and friends we are having another girl but I haven't announced to extended friends and family yet. I am struggling with what I want to do for my FB announcement. I want to be original and don't want to do anything like what I have seen on Pinterest. I have an idea in mind, however, my photoshop skills are failing me so my vision is not coming to life. So now I am at a standstill.

  • We didnt do anything clever to reveal her sex, just some text messages and phone calls.

I'll leave it up to her to announce her own gender when she figures it out.

  • DH and I just did a cake. Not original at all, but it was such a great experience. We had a ton more people than we expected, from people asking to be a part of it. We barbecued for everyone, and definitely no gifts, but we will never forget the feeling of cutting that cake with everyone we loved around us (we didn't know ahead of time). Here is a pic that shows our pure surprise and joy at seeing pink! I know some feel differently about these, but for us, totally worth it!
Sorry OP, I guess that's not helpful for living far away.
  • We had some friends do the silly string idea. Luckily they had the foresight to give any kids yellow cans, because the second they handed them out the kids started spraying!
  • I ended up not doing anything special as planned. My grandfather passed away in the States so I flew home for the funeral and had an elective u/s where my Mom, mil, and sil were present. It was also streamed so my husband was able to watch it on the internet in Germany :)

  • I wanted to do a big baby reveal party to tell my Mom and MIL because this is the first granddaughter and my MIL really wanted a girl. When we found out this past Wednesday we wound up just announcing it on Facebook. It was just too much to hold in.
