LO can't stay asleep

So, DS is now less fussy - yay!, but he still can't go to sleep on his own (drowsy or otherwise) and most of the time even when I put him down very asleep he only stays asleep for 10 minutes to 1 hour. Day and night. I'm getting 0 sleep and it's just plain exhausting.

He will sleep longer on me, and I'm scared to sleep myself with him on me for fear of smushing him, but at this point sometimes it happens.

Anyone in a similar boat or have ideas on how to get him to stay asleep?

(I swaddle, use white noise, have tried crib, swing, ane bouncy seat. We use a paci but I've also tried waiting until he's so asleep it falls out of his mouth before putting him down. I've also tried wrapping him in one of my shirts. )

  • I'm at my wits end too. I just posted something similar and I now have an overtired baby that won't sleep on too of it. No advice but I can give sympathy

  • How long after your babe falls asleep do you put him down? I know if DH doesn't wait a good 15 minutes, then LO jerks awake. Think it's because LO doesn't get into deep sleep for 10 minutes.

I'd celebrate the hour long naps!!

Also, I saw a big difference at about 8 weeks in sleeping for DS. Things just got easier, without really any explanation.

@Jelainey24‌ I've tried a few different times for putting him down as experiments ;) I will admit to probably jumping the gun a few times. I might watch that!

  • I am in the same boat, so no advice but lots of commiseration!!  I ALWAYS wait at least 15 minutes, sometimes longer, before putting her down.  My test for putting her down is that if I pick up her arm by the fabric on her sleeve it should be totally dead weight with no resistance.  Also, her eyelids should not be moving (REM / active sleep).  Good luck!!!

We've had this problem for the last few nights, just started out of the blue after getting back into our normal routine post 6 week growth spurt.

Are you familiar with the Wonder Weeks? It's one of the signs of Wonder Week 8. It may be something else but in our case, I'm pretty sure that's what's happening. It'll pass, but in the meantime it is really exhausting! I'm counting down until Friday night when DH can relieve me.

During the day, baby wearing is a lifesaver. LO will sleep for a few hours at a time in the Ktan.

I do have the wonder weeks app but unfortunately this has been a thing since about three weeks to now at seven weeks. I hope it passes quickly for you!

Oh, that's awful! I wish I had something more helpful to offer but we haven't found anything that really works either, besides time.

  • DD1 was like this and bed sharing was a lifesaver for us. Took a total of 10weeks from birth but I managed to transition her from sleeping on my chest, to sleeping snuggled against me, to sleeping in bed next to me, to the cosleeper.
