Trouble TTC

How embarrassing!

How can you tell a woman is going through fertility testing?  She is not a whore but still has 2 pairs of panties in her bag and none under her dress.

This may or may not have just happened to me.  And one of those pairs may or may not have been from an ultrasound last week.  I am just thankful none have fallen out in public!

Today was my last test and I have no polyps, my tubes are clear and my lining looks good.  Good looking uterus (and I think only you ladies will understand why that is a big compliment).  Today has been the first big piece of good news since starting the whole testing process.  My husband still has to do his testing on Tuesday, but we'll meet with the RE on Aug 12th to start treatment.  My hormones are just out of whack, which is keeping me from ovulating.  My RE says this is a pretty textbook case of PCOS, albeit a "significant" case because my testosterone levels are so high.  I'm cautiously optimistic.  I am happy my RE is so confident, but I am just waiting for something else to be wrong.  Expect the worst, but hope for the best.

In my initial consult my RE discussed that unless there are surprises that come up in testing, we'll start with Clomid.  Today she cited a new huge study that reported better results with Letrizole (spelling?).  I believe I remember reading somewhere on this board that some of your REs prefer Letrizole to Clomid.  I'm doing my research, but in the meantime, can anyone give me some insight as to why this is?

Re: How embarrassing!

  • Congrats on the good test results! My RE prefers letrozole - it changes how your body responds to estrogen, and has a lower risk of side effects and some say of multiples. I was a little emotional (yeah, let's blame that on the medication, lol) but no other side effects.
Me (33), PCOS. Bloodwork normal, AMH slightly high, HSG clear

  • I had no idea about the Letrizole/femara working better than clomid for PCOS. I will have to look into that as well.

I am glad y'all have a plan and your RE is feeling confident.

I don't know for sure if my RE prefers femara over clomid or not, but I know I sure do!!! I was a crazy mess on the one cycle I was on it, my lining only was like a 3.5mm and I ovulated late. I know ovulating late isn't really a huge problem, but all we ever do in this process is wait so I added it to my list :)

My RE and OB/GYN prefer Letrozole/Femara. It acts on the brain to reduce the production of estrogen. It doesn't have some of the not so good side effects as Clomid such as reducing uterine lining and CM. Also, it is not a drug that is termed for infertility, so if you have insurance that does not cover IF (like mine), Letrozole is typically covered. I currently pay a co-pay of $15.

I can't speak for Clomid, since I have never been on it. I hope this information helps.

    Good luck!

  • lol about the undies! That was me this morning! I wore a dress to my u/s thinking it would be easier than undressing but my panties were then in my purse too! haha

My mortifying moment came after my first u/s in January where there were 4 docs/nurses/students in the room plus my husband, and after the test as I was cleaning up, I wiped off this huge ball of hair that was twisted all around some toilet paper. I was so embarassed I could have died. I have no idea where that was hiding during the test but everyone in the room MUST have seen it! Then we had to sit down with the male RE after in his office and I know I was bright red. The nurse told me they see it all the time, almost every vagina has toilet paper in it. LOL didn't make me feel any better....
