disposable diaper help

We're going to buy disposable diapers for the first time as next week we're traveling, and I don't want to try to find laundry facilities. What kind and size of diapers do you buy? LO is 28" and 20 lbs. I have no idea what kinds we have available at the stores here (for sure Huggies, Pampers, and a store brand), but I need to know what to write on the grocery list so that DH comes home with something that will work for Clara.

Also, do you change sposie diapers in the MOTN? Or do they just stay in one diaper all night and change in the AM (like I do with my cloth diapers)?

I plan to put a cloth diaper cover over her disposables--even if you tell me it's not necessary. My stomach is starting to flip over just thinking about a diaper blowout on a plane.

DD is 29.5" and 20 pounds and she wears Pampers size 3. We use the Baby Dry overnight and she sleeps from about 8:30-6:30 with no leaks. I'm not sure if the others (Cruises or Swaddlers) would do as well over night because we haven't tried them.

ETA: Make sure to pull the ruffles on the outside of the diaper. That will help prevent leaks.

Mine is about the same size and is wearing size 4. He stays in the same diaper overnight. I actually have been putting two diapers on him at night (one on top of the other) because he was peeing through a single diaper (because he sleeps consistently on his stomach all night, so the front part of the diaper just wasn't able to handle all of it).

Similar size baby boy here, too. We use Pampers Cruisers Size 3 during the day and rarely have leaks/explosions.

At night, I put him in a Pampers Extra Protection Size 4 (which are rather hard to find and, to my knowledge, only come in boxes of 100+ which is laaaaame). He sleeps in that all night, up to 12 hours, with no leaks. The overnight diapers are thicker in the front than the back, which, I assume, is due to tummy sleeping. I also hike the diaper up a little more in the front for added protection. I also give him a bath right before bed and dust his bum with Anti-Monkey Butt, just for diaper rash preventing porpoises.

Pampers swaddlers size three for my DS. He a little over 20 lbs and is around 29 inches long. We never have any issues - even at night.

I also used disposables on our vacation, she's in size 3 and probably weighs about 20 lbs, she's always been smaller though. The recommended weights are listed on the box so you'll know which to buy. They hold a lot of liquid, you should be ok overnight. My baby sleeps on her back all night so I don't know if that's better for disposables or whatnot. She did get a rash that week

even though I was diligent about changing frequently! I use the babyganics brand from target, I like it a lot and use one or two during the days now cause I hate cleaning poop diapers! So does the nanny! That was long... You'll be fine, GL!

I have @yesthisiskim to thank for that little tidbit! I had even tried a size 5 baby dry overnight and still had a leak, but no leaks at all since I started doubling! In fact, I now just use two size 4 Up and Up's on top of one another. When he wakes up, the outer diaper is still dry, so I just re-use it for the first diaper of the day so it doesn't even go to waste.

We use size 3 Luvs. He's 21lbs. Have yet to have a blowout.
We just moved up to size 5 for DS1 Luvs and he's around 33lbs at 2y10m old.

I only change his diaper in the MOTN if he wakes up. I don't wake him up to do change him.

LO is 20 lbs. 9 oz. and 28 1/2 inches and wears Pampers Baby Dry size 4. We do not do a middle of the night change as the diapers seem to do pretty well.

DS is 30" and 19lbs. we use Pampers Swaddlers size 3 for both day and night use. We've not had a leak at night and he'll usually sleep at least 10 hours.

Like a PP said, make sure the ruffles get untucked on the sides.

We just did this last week while traveling. We used size 3 honest co. diapers, which you probably can't find there...so that's not helpful...BUT it went well, no leaks, even overnight with no changes. I must say we both felt stupid trying to figure out disposables for the first time...I consistently would start to put them on backwards, who knows why. Happy to be back in cloth!

We use pampers swaddlers size 4. We don't change in MOTN only when he wakes. Size 3 may be a better fit for you but DS fills up size 3 and then they leak so we went with the bigger size.

We are almost 22lbs and in size four Up&Ups for daycare. We put a flip cover over a disposable for a road trip, worked like a charm.

I have nothing to add (pampers swaddlers, size 3, no change in MOTN) but popped in to say you guys are clearly more clever than I am, finding ways to prevent leaks...I have just been dealing with the leaks and washing clothes and bed sheets. The leaks don't seem to bother him, so it never occurred to me to hike the diaper up in the front...

DD is close to her size, probably a little bigger. She wears a size 3 pampers and has a bit to grow before she is in a size 4. She only wears the swaddlers now. She never leaks at night, but she poops through all the diapers. I tried a few different types to see if they would contain the poop, huggies, luvs and honest company. She then started leaking poop and pee and each time she started to get a diaper rash. I think each baby is different.

It took me a really, really long time to figure out what ruffles you're talking about. I finally remembered those from once upon a time in the hospital...

Sounds like people are fairly evenly divided on 3s and 4s. Wish there was a cloth diaper to disposables size conversion chart.

DS is right about the same size. I use Huggies size 3 & Huggies overnight diapers at night. The overnights are the best. Even if he sleeps 12 hours there's no leak!

DS is 27in and 19.5 lbs. He is in a size 3 but sometimes I think I could switch into size 4

DD is about the same size, and we are in pampers size 3. I would say size 3 but size 4 would probably be fine.

I would try going up to a 4 if she is leaking out no matter the brand. Mine doesn't yet fit the weight guidelines for size 4, but we moved up just to contain everything, and he never has blowouts or leaks during the day now.

My kid is a fatty wearing 5s, so that doesn't help you but I've noticed with both kids that the weight range means nothing. They've always started leaking as they approach the minimum weight for the next size up. Once I moved them up, they always seem to fit better and the leaks disappear. 20 lbs is bordering 3s, moving into 4s. You are probably fine with either, but unless she has skinny legs, I'd probably go ahead and get the 4s. As far as brand, I've always liked Pampers baby dry.

LO wears a medium GMD diaper with a flip cover on the highest rise and third snap in on the sides. If that helps at all.

Good thought. I asked about using disposable inserts in my grovias on the cloth diaper board and their responses were nearly all to use disposable diapers instead. You know it's a bad cloth option when all the CD users are saying to use sposies, or at least that's what I figured.

S is 28in and 18lbs. He's in size 3 Pampers Cruisers during the day and size 4 Pampers Baby Dry at night. I did the same with DD when she was a baby. Always a size bigger at night with Baby Dry.

We just moved up to size 4 and he last weighed in at 17 pounds. We use pamper Swaddlers during the day and pampers baby dry 12 hour at night. He goes 12 hours without a change in those and they will be heavy in the morning.

No Flips or gdiapers, but I have grovias shells that can be used as a hybrid system. Grovia makes disposable inserts, and I've heard you can also use the gdiaper disposable inserts in them too. I had just kind of abandoned the idea given that it'd still leave me diaper laundry to do and didn't seem much cheaper if at all (I looked at it quite a while ago so don't remember the comparison now.)

The first real blow out my baby had was on a plane in a disposible. I wish I had put on a diaper cover! I just forgot them in all the packing! Def recommend it!
