NWMR: gift ideas for second time mom

Hi ladies! I am need of some inspiration...

My friend just had her second baby.  She lives in another state, and I'd like to send her a gift.  Any ideas?

Their house is overrun with STUFF from their first kid, so I don't want to send anything that's not immediately Useful.  I thought about a gift card to a local restaurant, but I'm not at all familiar with the area they live in.

I also thought about a gift card to the supermarket or babies r us, but that just seems so....blah.

Maybe I'm over thinking this.

Re: NWMR: gift ideas for second time mom

  • As a third time mom, I would love meals to be sent to me from a meal delivery service!
  • Loading the player...
  • I always wanted new burp cloths.  Target gift cards were also always welcome, although I'm sure blah for the buyer.

I've always found it easiest to get out for breakfast with little kids so could you go on yelp or google best breakfasts and brunches in their area and pick a place from their to get them a gift certificate?  (this is assuming they are breakfast people)

Kelly, Mom to Christopher Shannon 9.27.06, Catherine Quinn 2.24.09, Trey Barton lost on 12.28.09, Therese Barton lost on 6.10.10, Joseph Sullivan 7.23.11, and our latest, Victoria Maren 11.15.12

Secondary infertility success with IVF, then two losses, one at 14 weeks and one at 10 weeks, then success with IUI and then just pure, crazy luck.  Expecting our fifth in May as the result of a FET.

  • I'm not sure if you are wanting something for baby or mom; but I loved get things for me as a second time mom.  So maybe some nice nursing PJs (if she's nursing), or a gift card to get hair/nails/etc done.  Or maybe a gift card to have a family photo session done.
  • I like to do aiden+anais blankets, with gift receipt.

DS loved his muslin blankets and still carries them around at times (he's four).  The new baby is probably reusing his/her siblings things and their very own blanket is nice.

You really can't go wrong with gift cards though.  They will always need more baby consumables like diapers, wipes, whatever.

I like the amazon gift card idea bc she can shop for baby or her and not go anywhere. Not that you can't shop online elsewhere but I guess I just personally like amazon ;)
  • And also I often send a big box of diapers if you know she uses disposables, in a size 1 or 2

Maybe a GC to a local restaurant where they can order take out? Or where she can go for a date night? Or what about something for her - a GC to a nail salon? She'd probably appreciate something that would give her a little break!

  • for the 1st 6 months to a year I rarely left my babies other than to work, I actually had a gift card for a facial after my 1st LO and I used it on hair products because i didn't want to leave her for an hour to get a facial.
I'd go with a box of diapers or Tagret or Babies R Us gift card.  Also, just about everyone who gave me a gift for DS (#2) also gave a gift to DD (#1), usually a book or puzzle.  They were exactly 2 years apart so it really wasn't necessary because she really didn't get it. It was a nice gesture though and I think it would have really helped if she was any older.
  • A few of my friends got me a gift card to a local spa instead of "baby" gifts for DD2. It didn't have an expiration date, so I didn't feel pressure to use it right away.  I got a massage (after a nice, quiet hour at my gym and some coffee!) and a pedi. It. Was. Wonderful!  I will be doing these for close friends in the future.

I know it's boring for the buyer, but gift cards come in really handy.  I have two girls now, but there are things DD1 didn't need or items that need replacing (bottles, teething rings etc) when DD2 was born.

  • I liked getting new towels and washcloths for DD. Some of DS's bath stuff had gotten pretty ratty.
DS born 8/8/09 and DD born 6/12/12.
  • thanks everyone!
