Toddlers: 24 Months+

taking toddler and baby to doctor at same time?

I mixed up dates of 2 month old's check up (tomorrow) thought it was today...Now I must bring my 2 year old also because my husband has work. .is it better to strap 2 year old in stroller which will likely make her scream whole time- but then I can focus all of my attention on the baby. ..I did this during my OB appts, but that was almost 3  months ago. or just let her walk in and hope for the best? she might be cooperative or crazy, I don't know. ?

  • My kids are two years apart. I always let DD walk in during DS's Dr. visits. Our pediatrician is good with kids and there are toys and books in the rooms if they ever became necessary. We have never had problems at the pediatrician. I only ever strapped the kids into a stroller at my Dr. appointments when the kids had to go.

thanks!  My mom says she can come with us now, so I don't have to worry about it.

  • Mine are 19.5 mos apart and I always took DD to DS's appts by myself (except the first one since DH was still home).  I never put DD in a stroller.  A pediatrician's office doesn't expect perfect behavior.  Bring some toys and snacks and she'll be fine.

The only places I have taken them is grocery shopping, or to the park, or a family member's house. Baby is usually sleeping in her car seat or there is another adult with us. I guess I'm worried because my daughter used to have a lot of temper tantrums in public and I would need to pick her up so she doesn't hit her head. I was thinking that might be dangerous while holding a little baby.  but the tantrums have subsided recently. she is getting much more cooperative. but thanks for the feedback.

  • My 2 are 14 months apart and I always taken them together. Honestly the older one is normally better behaved then when I take him alone because the dr isn't "bothering him".

My mom did go with us, so my older daughter just played in the waiting room with some other 2 year olds and apparently had a fantastic time.  So ultimately I did not take both kids with me because my mom went with us. But still went really well because she made some friends.

  • Mine are 2 years apart and I always try to schedule their appointments together.  My older one has always been fine.  I do usually have something for her to do on my phone or she used to bring her Leap Pad.   She seems to really enjoy watching her brother being checked out, it must be so nice for her to be getting poked and prodded
