Breastfeeding

Light-hearted and Lopsided

This isn't as much of a real concern as it is a funny issue I have with my first time breastfeeding.

In the very beginning DS preferred one side over the other. And circumstancially, I may have enabled it with our sleeping spaces and to avoid additional stress. My first born DD, never latched on and seemingly preferred a bottle over breast. So this is all new to me the second time around and everything has been going fairly well, but DS is about to turn 11m and my breasts are two noticably different cup sizes. The A-cup still produces milk, just not nearly as much. He will not use a bottle, so I've been exclusively BF. Not pumping. It is ridiculous! And I look so funny. Any other lopsided ladies out there? Is there any way to balance this or am I pretty much past the point of no return until I wean? I've tried putting more focus on the small one, but then the big one becomes engorged..

Re: Light-hearted and Lopsided

  • I'm lop-sided because I developed Mastitis on one side and over the course of 6 weeks discovered two abscesses that needed to be surgically drained. My supply tanked on that side and I was so traumatized by what happened I decided to shut it down. There is a noticeable difference for me too--looks so goofy! I really hope my working side goes back to normal once we wean in a few months.

  • I started out a little lopsided and it's become more noticeable (to me) since breastfeeding. Actually, when I was a new nursing mama and for maybe the first year it was less noticeable, because they were both pretty big, haha. Now we're still nursing just a little and they've shrunk so much, but the left is probably almost a cup size bigger. Eh, whaddya gonna do? ;)
  • Just started nursing my newborns, but I've always been quite lopsided... Like since I first started wearing a bra. It kept getting more and more noticeable, until I went to a specialty bra shop a couple years ago. I wear an (size 6) equalizer every day just because that's the only way any bra will fit. I was shocked to find out how unequal I actually was. I hope I don't get even more lopsided now with the nursing! They make silicone or foam equalizers. The foam are less expensive but not as sturdy and not as natural looking. For what might be a temporary problem while nursing, though, that may be something to look into if it would give your clothes a better fit and make you more comfortable.
  • I am very lopsided. Righty has always been a bit bigger but I gave up on lefty at 7mo PP and been feeding exclusively from righty since then. We are weaning now but righty is still a lot bigger, really bad when she is full. I think lefty is a B cup and righty a D. I use bra biscuits in my nursing bra to make lefty look about the same. Not sure what will happen once we are weaned, just hope she shrinks a lot!!!!

  • Oh man, I am SUPER lopsided. Daisy boycotted my left breast starting from 5 months old. I got sick of trying to force it, so now she just nurses off the right mostly. She has since started on the left breast again (somewhat), but it doesn't produce much anymore for obvious reasons, and I can't seem to boost it for some reason... sooooo, I rock lopsided boobies. My right is about an H cup, my left is around an F.
  • Haha, I'm loving the shared stories. I use a foam padding, but it only helps visually if my shirt is a little baggy. No bikini top this summer. :P
